Unlock 1Password prompt.

I've been using 1Password for quite some time now, and absolutely love it. However, I have a very small issue that has just come up since I just now changed my master password for 1Password.

When I successfully open up 1Password and then try to log into any password protected web site, 1Password now prompts me with the following message: "Unlock 1Password to fill login". I never had to do this before I changed my master password today. It's one extra step that I'd rather not perform. I've played around with the check boxes within 1Password's Preference window, but cannot seem to get rid of this pesky prompt.

I'm sure it's something simple that I'm overlooking...perhaps something got mucked up within my Keychain Access app. ??

Thanks for any tips, Gramps.

    Hi Grampa Doodie!

    Welcome to the forums.

My guess at what happened is that you previously had your 1Password master password stored in your OS X keychain, but when you changed your master password that changed, too. As a consequence, the details of all of the little bits of the Security Preferences started to matter more. But whatever the cause of the change it sounds to me like a bit more tinkering with the the checkboxes in 1Password > Preferences > Security is needed to get things to work as you would like it to.

In particular, you should set Autolock to at least 20 minutes and be sure to uncheck the two boxes for "Disable automatic unlock ..."

Here is how I have my Security preferences set, and I think that a set up like this may work well for you.

I hope this helps. Please let us know.

  • JP,

Thank you very much for your great reply. I'm embarrassed to say that I'm an Apple Authorized Service Provider and computer repair specialist for our local school district...and one of my favorite sayings to our end users is "Restart, and then call me." I actually had my pref settings set the way you mentioned, however, ever since I rebooted my computer...that pesky prompt has not reappeared.

    Go figure. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    I'm blushing now, Gramps.

Great news! Sometimes the simplest solution really is the best. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

You have earned this hilarious clip:

Maybe you can be of further help. I have yet another issue since I changed my password. (Have you ever had one of those days?) <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Now when I quit 1Password and re-open it, I'm not prompted to use my password. It just re-opens. I have nothing in my Keychain Access app related to 1Password, unless it is titled with something totally unfamiliar to me.

    Update:

Just one of those days. I think I should just put my Mac away and have a beer.

I think I got it figured out khad. Can you "bold" up that "Newbie" title over there on the left of my post? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

By the way, that is one of my all-time favorite techie videos.

We all know those sorts of days, Gramps. Kick back and relax.

Great. And there is no need to highlight "Newbie". The Security preference pane has a lot going on with it, and it takes time to tune it things to exactly how you like things.

Khad turned me on to The IT Crowd a few months ago. That certainly cost some productivity on my part as I had to watch the entire series as fast as Netflix would ship it out to me.

  • Not only do you have great software, but your tech support is like no other tech support. Excellent support everyone!! And it's great to have fun with your team in between all the problems "I've" created for myself. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thanks for the very kind words.

I once tried an #9 elixir. It got me in trouble after a very embarrassing incident with a policeman on 34th and Vine.
