Feature request better searching of secure notes

Apologies if this has been discussed before but I find it disappointing that search result only show you the items that contain the search text not where in the item the text occurs. When searching for an item in a long secure note this is a real problem. I had starting using 1Password a lot of freeform notes but the lack of proper searching has sent me back to keeping these as simple text files.

    Jeremy,

I had the same disappointment when I started searching long Notes. However, there is a way to search within the Notes for specific words. Please see Khad's post in the following thread: How to search within secure notes.

Khad's advice: "The contents of Secure Notes are searched when "Everything" is selected as a part of the search criteria. You can also click inside the note text and ⌘F will search inline as in TextEdit or your favorite word processor."

Khad added that once using inline searching, you can use ⌘G to go to the next result (like F3 in some text editors).

I realize you may wish for the search term to be highlighted after the first global search, but I find the method above to be more than adequate for my infrequent searches.

I hope this new information allows you to return to using Secure Notes rather than keeping simple text files. From your comment, it appears that we both use the notes for a significant amount of data. The inline search method saved me hours of frustration.

It bears repeating, but please be sure to click inside the note text before you try ⌘F.

Please let me know if the ⌘F/⌘G method works for you.

    Cheers!

    Brandt

P.S. When I first started using 1Password, I created my freeform notes in TextEdit and then dragged the files into a Secure Note. However, I also use 1P on my iPad and iPhone, and currently, synching the Notes does not allow for file transferring...just the text. So, I started using the Secure Notes exclusively.

With some of my particularly long notes that have several instances of a keyword I want to find, I will temporarily Copy/Paste the Note text into TextEdit or Word. Rarely does the need occur, but it can be helpful. By using the temp method, although I am exposing my data to the clipboard for the short term, the information is still stored securely for the long term. As precaution, I make sure to flush the clipboard cache once I'm done.

Hopefully, AB staff and/or other Forum members can offer more efficient suggestions, but it works for me. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
