Close app does not lock

I'm wondering why closing the 1password app does not lock the file and browsers can still access the database... any idea?

Thx

Chris

Hello Chris and welcome to the Forums!

The application/browser extension lock settings are set in the 1Password/Preferences/Security tab.

Khad posted a very thorough explanation of the different settings you can chose from: 1Password Browser Extension password protection

To quote some of his relevant statements:

If "Disable automatic unlock for 1Password" is checked you will always be prompted to enter your master password when opening 1Password. This includes quitting the app and relaunching it.

Likewise, if "Disable automatic unlock for all applications" is checked you will always be prompted to enter your master password when using one of the browser extensions after a fresh launch of your browser(s).

So any easy way to keep prying eyes at bay is to leave both of the above settings enabled and quit 1Password and your browsers when you are done using them. Your data will be locked.

I attached a screen shot of my personal settings. If you leave the highlighted two boxes checked, you should be secure.

However, please note that if you have an open browser with 1Password unlocked, just closing the 1Password application will not lock the browser extension. You have two simple options at this point:

    1. Close the browser(s). Based on the security settings listed above, you will be prompted for your master password when you reopen and attempt to use the browser extension.

    2. If you do not wish to close your browser, you should click on the 1P browser extension icon and select "Lock 1Password". This will allow you to lock the browser extension immediately. (see screenshot)

Please let me know if I did not answer your question to your satisfaction and/or if you have additional questions.

    Cheers!

P.S. I did not discuss the "screen saver" and "sleep" options, but Khad explains the various selections. If you want to leave your browser open, and you do not want others to view your screen, another simple option is to initiate the screen saver. Not sure where you are using your computer, but the screen saver method is my favorite when visiting relatives/friends, etc.

My pleasure Chris! I'm glad the information was what you needed.

Feel free to post any additional questions you may have, and please do not worry about whether you think the comment is too basic.

We were all new to the software at first, and it took me a while to sort through the various options. Actually, I still search the Forums looking for answers. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Look forward to seeing you around.

    Take care,
