Firefox 4 Extension Partially Responsive
Folks,
I'm having some difficulty with the FireFox 4 extension for 1Password. I've had it installed and have been using it just fine for months on my MacBook Pro, but in the last week suddenly the only button that works on the toolbar is the "1Password" one on the far left. I cannot use the "Fill" or "Generate Password" options. (The only option that works is "1Password" on the toolbar.)
When anything but "1Password" is selected in the toolbar, the dropdown doesn't occur and I am not prompted to enter my master password.
I've tried the following steps.
1. Uninstall and re-install 1Password extension. (more on this afterwards)
2. Re-install 1Password on the Mac.
3. Ensured the 1Password for FF3 is unchecked.
4. Tried FireFox 4 in 32 and 64 bit modes.
The other odd problem I am having is that 1Password 3 locks up when I tell it to install the browser extensions. I get the spinning color wheel and it never goes away. (I left it for a half an hour once, just to be sure.) Despite this behavior, it DOES install the extensions.
I'm baffled by the behavior, both of the extension and 1Password itself (upon trying to install the extensions).
Anybody have a suggestion? It's extremely inconvenient to not have the "fill password" functionality available.
Thanks much.
Steven

Welcome to the forums, Steven. I'm sorry that you are having this problem.
It sounds like your 1Password installation is damaged, which is keeping it from starting. This is likely also affecting browser integration. To resolve this:
1. Download 1Password from our web site:
http://agilebits.com/downloads
Click on the "Download Now" button under "1Password 3"
2. Quit your web browser and 1Password, if it's running
3. Drag the newly downloaded version of 1Password to the same location as any previous one -- replacing it
4. Run 1Password at least once and then your web browser
Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.
It sounds like Firefox is caching some data from a previous version. You can fix this by completely uninstalling the Firefox extension and reinstalling it:
1. Make sure Firefox is not running.
2. Launch 1Password from your /Applications folder
3. Click 1Password > Preferences > Browsers
4. Uncheck the box next to all versions of Firefox
5. Launch Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is *not* listed.
6. Step #5 is the most important step so I'll repeat it again here <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Launch Firefox and make sure 1Password is not there.
7. If 1Password is appearing in the Extensions window, click the Uninstall button on the 1Password extension and quit Firefox.
8. Return to your 1Password window and check the box next to Firefox. There are two versions: 3 and 4. Pick the one that you have installed.
9. Restart Firefox and click Tools > Add-ons > Extensions. Make sure that 1Password is listed.
After following these steps, the Firefox extension will have forgotten everything about previous versions and should work correctly.
If you are still having trouble, it is possible that you have a corrupt Firefox profile. To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilebits.com.
Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please let me know how it turns out.

Welcome to the forums, mjpitt. I am sorry you are having trouble as well.
Please take a look at the "Problems Saving Logins" section of 1Password's User Guide.
If you are still having trouble, could you tell me if the problem is only with certain URLs or all of them? If it is only certain ones, could you please provide the URL(s) where you are seeing this behavior?
Please let me know.

Hi,
I am also having this problem. Background:
Has all been working fine in Safari and Firefox 3.
Upgraded to Firefox 4.
Tried to use the 1P button in the Firefox toolbar - no response
Try to use the 1Password toolbar: Only the far left 1Password button has any response - dropdown menu DOES dropdown - however "launch 1Password" does not actually launch it.
Try to launch 1 Password manually (ie open application)opens fine and seems to work OK - however all still unresponsive in Firefox4
Try in Safari - all seems to be working just fine.
One other thing to note - may or may not be relevant: I am running Firefox4 in 32 bit mode as this is the only way, at present, to keep the in-browser pdf viewer working.Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, Neil. Sorry for the trouble.
Please follow the instructions in my post above. Also note that 1Password loads separate extensions for 32-bit and 64-bit scenarios. This is determined at the time the extension is installed (not every time it is activated when launching the browser). If you toggle Firefox's "bit-ness" between 32- and 64-bit you will need to completely uninstall and then reinstall the 1Password extension each time. I only mention this in case you often switch between the two. If you stay with 32-bit you will only need to reinstall the 1Password extension when you eventually make the switch to 64-bit at a later date.
Please let me know how it goes.

Hi khad,
Thanks very much for the prompt response. The problem was the wrong extension - after your clear explanation, it was obvious - the 64-bit extension would have been loaded initially.
It was only after upgrading to Firefox 4, then discovering that the Firefox pdf plugin didn't work and then finding that the workaround involved switching to 32 bit that I made the change from 64 bit to 32 bit operation. I didn't actually have cause to try 1Password till after the switch.
Extension removed and re-installed and all now appears to be working just fine.
Many thanks again - a great product and great support.Flag 0
