Erase data after N failed attempst

my iPad was just stolen, and I realized it'd be cool if 1password implemented the same trick as iOS does, when entering the passcode has failed too many times. After 10 attempts, wooof, all gone. Hyper secure.

This suggestion has come up from time to time. Thank you for letting us know it would be useful to you.



The difference, of course, is that iOS devices are backed up every time you plug them into your computer, so restoring the data to a new device is a fairly simple task. Unfortunately, not everyone has a backup of their 1Password data (though they should). The nightmare this could create for some customers troubles me. Just think if your sibling/child got their hands on your device and just entered wrong passwords to wipe your data. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />



For now, I would suggest using the security features built into iOS which include such a "auto-destruct" feature for your entire device along with remote wipe via the Find My iPhone feature (strangely named since it works on iPads as well).



One thing to keep in mind is that your secrets in your 1Password data are safe wherever they are stored. Although we don’t recommend making your 1Password database publicly available to the world, we have designed it so that your username and password data (along with other secret data stored within it) is protected no matter whose hands they fall into. Deleting the data can be very harmful and does not necessarily add significant protection against any real-world attacks that we are aware of.



We never say "never," but we do not currently have plans to implement this.

I would like to see this too, but I think it is important to balance it with a better way to encourage everyone to back up their data. It is something even I have trouble remembering to do. I hope iCloud makes this easier for the rest of my iOS data, even if 1Password needs to do this separately.
