Hello alehof and welcome to the Forums!
1P for iPad does not contain support for any type of Folder: Feature Request: Folders on iPad. All your logins will sync to the iPad. They just won't be separated into folders like they are in your desktop interface.
Regular folders are synched to the iPhone. If you have an iPhone and use 1P's app, you will find your regular folders in the More section.
In your post, you referred to intelligent folders. By intelligent folders, I presume you are referring to what 1Password calls Smart Folders.
At this time, Smart Folders are not synched to 1P's iOS app. I know there has been discussion regarding the possibility of future synching functionality, but I have no idea when, or if, it will happen.
Please refer to the following 1P for Mac user guide link for confirmation of the Smart Folder iOS sync issue: 1P 3 for Mac: Smart Folders. (look under Tips and Things to Know)

Hi alehof,
Just to follow up on Brandt's excellent answer, at the moment 'Smart Folders' can't be selected to be synced with the iPad version of 1Password under your iPad's sync settings within 1Password on the Mac.
This is something we want to add in the future, along with the ability to see these folders on the iPad itself, however I don't have a timeframe for exactlyw hen this may be available.Flag 0 -
Add me to that list as well! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
I use no folders, only Smart Folders, to organize items in 1Password on my Mac. (I find it easier to put tags on a few items and collect them in a few mutually-overlapping Smart Folders than to put them into folders, which seems to be more of a one-to-one association.) My solution has been to create a folder and drag all items from my "Sync" Smart Folder into it, but of course enabling Smart Folders for syncing would make this a lot more streamlined.
Speaking of Smart Folders, an "is not" option for Tags in the rules settings would be fantastic. I tried using "None of the following are true" and "Tag is" but that fails if an item has more than one tag.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
Thanks for the feedback, Jameson! And welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
We hope to add something like this in a future version. We just need to make sure that management is possible for folks that are iOS-only.
I am wracking my brain to think of a specific use case for "Tag is not". I think this may be useful (and I will bring it up with the team), but if you have a specific example that would be great! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
I think that these are two different issues. At first support for smart folders in iPad/iPhone app per se. I personally don't care, but I'm sure there is a lot of people who do.
About what I care a lot of though is the use of smart folders as the way to determine what entries to sync into IOS device. It's very badly needed, I don't trust any of my IOS devices as much as I trust my desktop and so shouldn't you. I want a very small subset of my logins to be there in my iPhone at all and support for just regular folders makes it a real pain. iPad is even worse, at the moment I chose to not store some of info in 1Password at all . And I don't see how implementing it could affect IOS-only folks <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />.
As about tags, I actually find the current "is", "matches" etc quite confusing anyway. First two criteria regarding tags I can think of are "has a tag" and "doesn't have a tag". I don't think there is a way to describe the second one.Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, Stew. You are correct. The iOS apps do not have native support for Smart Folders, and selective sync over Wi-Fi does not allow Smart Folders in the criteria (only regular folders).
We will consider this for the future, but if you don't mind me asking, why would you think your data is any less secure on your iOS device? It is protected with the same 128-bit AES encryption as the desktop.
Untagged items show up in the built-in "Untagged" Smart Folder.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0 -
It's not about cryptographic security, it's about physical. There is two issues I see. At first it doesn't matter how hard is your cryptographic protection if someone just finds out your master password via peeking and then just steals your device. With portable devices phone/pad you use everywhere this risk is much higher than with your desktop in your home. The second issue (which is too often overlooked IMHO) is that while phone is mostly very personal device, iPad mostly isn't. Everyone in my family uses the very same iPad. So, it's logical for me that we all store some data in the very same 1password database in the very same ipad. We obviously trust each other regarding forums etc passwords, but I don't think that I trust even my kids enough to give them my banking/paypal/etc passwords <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />.
And regarding tags "has no tags" isn't the criterion I meant. I meant that I can't describe a smart folder with criteria à la "please all items in logins which have a tag 'personal', but don't have a tag 'financial'".Flag 0 -

Thanks for your response, Brent!
I'm a fairly new user, so I only have one example so far: I've been adding lots and lots of logins to 1Password, and many of them are for sites I almost never visit, so I have a Smart Folder called "Frequent" which matches items that are Logins and do not have the tag "unused". (To do this with the current Smart Folder setup, I'm forced to specify "Match NONE of the following criteria: item is not type Login, tag is "unused"). I make the Frequent smart folder my default view in 1Password, so if I need to find a site to go-&-fill, I am just scrolling through my most-used logins and not the entire long list. Admittedly in this case I could have a tag called "frequent" instead of "unused" but the "unused" tag makes more sense to me for a variety of reasons (some of which are crazy, OCD-related things, I won't deny). I would love to be able to also set up Smart Folders like what Disco Stew mentioned: "personal" tag but not "financial" tag. Tagging seems to be a many-to-many association, where folders are many-to-one, so I see tags and Smart Folders as a much more powerful way to manage data once it grows beyond a certain size.
Regarding Smart Folders on iOS, it seems like the solution is going to be similar to the "Unfiled" folder which exists but is not user-accessible in the desktop version. (If I drag an item out of a folder, I get a pop-up asking if I want it deleted or moved to "Unfiled"). Since you can't add a new 1Password item to a Smart Folder on the desktop or on iOS, it seems like it would naturally land in "Unfiled". If an item is added on iOS and sync'd back to the desktop, maybe it's automatically placed in "Unfiled"? Or maybe a "Created on DEVICE_NAME" folder appears the way iTunes does it.
In any event, I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Thanks! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Indeed! You make a lot of great points. Thanks so much for sharing your unique perspective. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
Just to clarify, the "Unfiled" Smart Folder was removed as it lead to much confusion. You can still recreate it, though, along with some even "smarter" folders. I really like your "Created on DEVICE_NAME" idea. Although I don't create many items on my mobile devices, in those kinds of cases this could help with managing them. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

Yes, neither do I, actually! But since you mentioned the Smart Folder/iOS situation it got me thinking about it, and I did recently add a couple of wallet items on the iPhone. For some reason I don't think to take my wallet out at my desk, but I had to pull it out to verify a card number the other day and thought "This is a perfect opportunity to add this to 1Password." <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Wow, also thank you for that "Smarter" Folders link. I had not realized you could nest rules; this has immensely streamlined my syncing workflow: I used to have to select and drag three or four sets of items into my "dumb" sync folder before syncing and now I can simply drag my smarter "Sync" Smart Folder into the dumb "Sync" folder and hit sync. Thanks! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
By the way, this is the phantom "Unfiled" folder I was referring to. I've never seen or used "Unfiled" but it is mentioned in this dialog when deleting a folder.

Any time, Jameson! I am glad that you found it helpful! Smart Folders is a very powerful feature, and the best way to get a handle on it is to try it out. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
Thank you for pointing out this prompt! We definitely need to change this, since Unfiled is now, indeed, a phantom. The only thing more confusing than having items stored in no folder show up magically in an "Unfiled" folder is the idea of sending them here when it no longer exists! I am reporting this so that we can fix it in an update. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0
