Checkbook is out, but a few final questions

<div class="IPBDescription">Compatibility mechanics</div>Greetings-

I'm all set and ready to purchase 1Password but I'm not sure how to do so... here's why!

I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8 on my laptop and don't plan to upgrade until Lion comes out.

I see 1Password 3 requires 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and read (but got confused) about the legacy versions. Would I purchase 1Password 3 and then download the legacy version? Then, when I do upgrade, I wouldn't need to re-purchase 1Password would I?

Also, if I get the family license package and get a new desktop before upgrading the laptop can I run two separate versions of 1Password on the two machines and have them play well together?

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the forums, baloophi! Thanks for your interest in 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Yep. Some of our users are still running Tiger. We do hope they upgrade soon since Apple has stopped issuing security updates for Tiger, but an up-to-date 1Password license allows you access to our "back catalog" as well. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

From the "Upgrade Policy" section of our "1Password Licenses" page:
When you purchase 1Password your license will never expire and you can use it on the current version of 1Password indefinitely. Do note, however, that system updates from Apple could cause certain aspects of 1Password to stop working in the future. For example, when Apple released Safari 3, 1Password required an upgrade to continue functioning.

Historically, we have been very generous with upgrades: Since we released 1Password, we have given away over 100 free updates and upgrades. We will continue this tradition of generosity and paid license holders will always get all point updates for free. (Going from version 3.5 to version 3.6 is called a “point update” and will be free if you have a 1Password 3 license.)

Major new releases will require a paid upgrade, but it will be a discounted upgrade for paid license holders. Those who purchase 1Password within 45 days of any major upgrade will be able to upgrade for free. (Going from any version of 1Password 3 to any version of 1Password 4 is called a major version upgrade and will be paid, except if you purchased your license within 45 days prior to the new version’s release.)
As of this writing 1Password 3 already has some support for Lion in the beta channel, for what that's worth.

    You surely can.

Thanks again for considering 1Password. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

We are always here to help!

P.S. We don't actually accept checks, but I think you were probably using that euphemistically. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
  • Khad -

Thanks for the prompt and detailed response! Those were the answers I wanted!

And I was indeed using the "checkbook" phrase loosely... I'll be sending you an envelope full of pennies!

    Thanks again!
