undo DropBox sync

I use 1Password for Windows and sync using DropBox. How do I undo this? I want to put it back the way it was before I selected 'Move to Dropbox' in Preferences. I share this PC with my spouse who had already installed DropBox on this PC. So when I selected Move to Dropbox, it moved it to my spouse's DropBox. I did not know that currently 2 different DropBox users cannot share the same DropBox on a PC. So I want to undo this, install 1Password and DropBox on another PC then sync on that PC. Is there an easier way to do what I want to do here? Thanks

Hello cminnow and welcome to the Forums!

Your 1Password data is stored in a "folder" file called 1Password.agilekeychain. You "moved" It to the Dropbox folder. To move it back, please try the following:

    1. Quit 1Password for Windows and any running web browsers.

    2. In Windows Explorer, drag the folder named 1Password.agilekeychain to the new location.

    3. Launch 1Password for Windows.

    4. On the Keychain tab of 1Password preferences, click the “…” button.

    5. In the Browse for Folder dialog, find and select the 1Password.agilekeychain folder in its new location; then click the OK button.

    6. Back in the Preferences dialog box, confirm that the Location field shows the full path to the moved folder (something like C:…\1Password.agilekeychain); then click the OK button.

I hope these procedures work for you. Regardless, please post your results.

    Cheers!

    Brandt

P.S. These procedures were taken from a 1Password help article named How do I move my 1Password data to a different directory? (Linked article)

    Welcome to the forum, cminnow!

If you really want to move your 1Password data out of Dropbox control, just follow these steps:

In 1Password for Windows, click the Preferences tool, and select the General tab.

In the 1Password Data field, highlight and copy the complete path to the 1Password data folder, which will be something like this:

    Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\your-name\My Documents\My Dropbox\...\1Password.agilekeychain
Windows 7
C:\Users\your-name\Documents\My Dropbox\...\1Password.agilekeychain

Quit 1Password and any running web browsers.

In Windows Explorer (the one you use to view files and folders on your computer, not Internet Explorer) open the folder that contains 1Password.agilekeychain.

Drag the 1Password.agilekeychain folder—the whole thing, not just its contents—to the default location, which will be one of these:

    Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\your-name\My Documents\1Password\1Password.agilekeychain
Windows 7
C:\Users\your-name\Documents\1Password\1Password.agilekeychain

Close Windows Explorer.

Launch 1Password, and choose File > Open 1Password Data Folder.

Open the folder that contains 1Password.agilekeychain, select 1Password.agilekeychain, and click the OK button.
On the other hand:

If you and your wife have different user accounts on your Windows computer, you'll each have a Dropbox folder of your own, and each of you can associate that Dropbox folder with a different Dropbox account. Then each of you can have a 1Password folder in his or her own Dropbox folder. Separate user accounts associated with separate Dropbox accounts should be functionally equivalent to separate computers.

    I hope that helps, cminnow!

Thanks David! Your instructions are a much more detailed (and better) explanation! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

cminnow, please reply with your results. I'm sure other members will benefit from your experience.

    Heh...I wrote both sets of instructions. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I guess the difference is that I could be more explicit about a specific situation here, rather than writing in a generic sense for the user's guide.

This should not have happened if you and your spouse are using a different user account (are logging into a different user account).

Indeed. That's what I meant here:
