Disable prompting for passwords

I've tried to do this and have read forums and FAQs and just can't seem to do it.

How can I disable 1Password from asking me for passwords? Period. Everywhere. Yes, everywhere. Really, everywhere. There too.

This drives me nuts.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello stevedemena and welcome to the Forums!

To disable 1Password from asking you for passwords, I presume you do not want 1Password to ask you whether to save a Login entry for whatever website you happen to be on.

If this is the case, try unchecking the Enable Autosave of Logins in browser option on the Preferences>Logins tab.

Please give it a shot and let me know if this provides the decreased functionality that you desire.

    Cheers!

If you are looking for 1Password to "Never prompt for master password" simply enable that option in Preferences > Security:

Please do keep in mind the security implications of doing this, though. As the warning states when you attempt to enable this setting:
Storing 1Password's master password into the default login keychain can compromise your security. If the login keychain is not properly secured, which by default it is not, all your 1Password data can be viewed without entering the master password.

It is recommended that you do not use this feature until you are familiar with how the login keychain works.
You might consider simply changing some of the other security settings so that you enter your master password less frequently rather than never which is secure and convenient. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

If you disable all the Auto-Lock and Unlocking settings, you will only be prompted for your master password after you restart your Mac. If you have a laptop and don't like to be prompted while working but do like to know that everything is secure when you close your lid consider unchecking everything except "Lock when sleeping." You will only be prompted for your master password when you restart your Mac or after you open the lid (i.e., wake from sleep).

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

This is good enough for me:

Keychain Access>Menubar Edit>Change Settings for Keychain...>Lock When Sleeping

With the above settings, 1Password will remain locked until Keychain is unlocked.

    Hi,

I have the "Never prompt for Master password" box checked. It's been set that way for ages. (Version 3.5.9 (build 30884)

Just went to Chrome, clicked on the Key in the menu bar and it asked me for a password.

I also have the Windows version 1.0.5.190 (Win 7 x64). I just clicked on the application itself and it asked me for a password. I don't see a "Never prompt for master password" option in the Windows version. The 3 "Auto Lock" settings are unchecked. I just ran Chrome on Win7 and clicked on 1Password key, it asked for a password. (Under Browsers I have checked the "Leave extensions unlocked when browsers are closed")

This is a secure home computer. If people break into my apartment I have more to worry about than them getting into 1Password. The program initially didn't ask for a password that I can remember. (2-3 years ago)

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Thanks for the welcome. No, I didn't want to disable that function, but to disable it ever asking me for a "Master Password" when I run the 1Password application or the Browser plugins for Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Sorry for the confusion here, Steve.
The program initially didn't ask for a password that I can remember. (2-3 years ago)
Neither 1Password for Windows nor Google Chrome existed 2-3 years ago. 1Password for Mac and the current Safari and Firefox extensions still function as they always have. For better or worse, 1Password for Windows and the Chrome extension function a bit differently. From the "Automatic locking of your 1Password data" section in our 1Password for Windows User Guide:
In 1Password for Mac, we provide an option to store your master password in the OS X system keychain. We don’t recommend it, as it makes your 1Password data accessible to anyone who can unlock your Mac OS X account, but it’s an option we can provide. Windows doesn’t offer an equivalent to the OS X keychain, though, so there’s no secure way to store your master password. For that reason, 1Password for Windows doesn’t include a “remember my master password” option. There is no way to set the preferences so as to avoid locking altogether.
Additionally, there is not currently a way to read items from the OS X keychain using the Chrome extension API. I am not sure there ever will be, but we are still exploring our options here.
This is a secure home computer. If people break into my apartment I have more to worry about than them getting into 1Password.
I don't want to tell you how to run your computer(s), but do consider that if anyone were to ever obtain your 1Password data, they would likely have access to every single one of your online accounts including banking and email (from which they could obtain any other credentials not already available to them in 1Password). I don't mention this to wag a finger at you but for the benefit of others who may come across this thread via search. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I'm sorry if I couldn't give you the answer you were looking for, but please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

    Best regards,

    Steve,

Sorry for misinterpreting your question. Upon rereading your original post, it appears obvious to me what you were asking. Thankfully, Khad has responded with the current options available to you.
