iPad sync using Dropbox problem

<div class="IPBDescription">keychain not recognized by 1Password for iPad</div>I have 1Password working just fine for the iMac and MacBook Pro, using Dropbox.

I'm having trouble however when the iPad tries to sync with Dropbox.

Dropbox app on the iPad shows the files but the the problem is between the 1Password app for iPad and Dropbox app for iPad.

The Dropbox application on the iPad shows:

a file named ".ws.agile.1Password.settings

a folder named "1Password"

within the above folder, a folder named 1Password.agilekeychain which contains;

a file named "1Password.html, a folder named "a", a folder named "config" and a folder named "data"

1Password does not recognize the keychain.

1Password settings on the iPad for "Sync" show Dropbox "On" and Wi-Fi "Off".

When selecting the "Sync Now" key under the "Dropbox Sync" settings option, I get the following message: "Dropbox sync failed to download remote encryption keys. Make sure Dropbox is fully synced on you desktop."

As mentioned above, the sync between the iMac and MacBook Pro works just fine.

Any suggestions?

Hello burgmanguy and welcome to the Forums!

I'm sorry you're having an issue with syncing your iPad with Dropbox.

In your iPad Dropbox folder, please tap on the .ws.agile.1Password.settings file and let me know what you see. My iPad has the same ".ws.agile...." file, but I do not have a "1Password" folder. I have a folder called "1Password.agilekeychain".

The ".ws.agile..." file is a pointer file that contains the location of your 1Password.agilekeychain folder. So, when you tap on it, you will know where 1Password is looking for you keychain.

Before replying, please try the steps outlined in the following post: iPad won't access Dropbox

Please let us know your results.

    Cheers!

    That is the answer I'm expecting to get. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Hopefully, resetting the Dropbox folder will place the 1Password.agilekeychain in the Dropbox root folder and solve your problems.

Um maybe it really depends on if he is a neat freak like me. I actually have my 1Password keychain in a folder called 1Password in the Dropbox root

The marker file is created by the desktop app so as long as its syncing properly in all likely hood the marker file is pointing (properly) to where he has the keychain.

Please note that the Dropbox app displays the keychain as a folder the only place the keychain is displayed as a bundle is in the desktop client. If you open the dropbox website you will see the keychain looking like any other folder. (This is in reference to his post where mentions a folder called 1Password.agilekeychain)

Since your turning in for the evening one of the others most likely will pick up tomorrow. So here is a few questions

    1) Is this the first time you have setup Dropbox sync ? I suspect yes, see logic below about keychain and unable to load keys etc re #3

    2) Have you ever used wifi sync ? I am assuming no so no keychain is on the iPad which in all likely hood would alleviate the problem described.

3 In re to #1 above did you create a new keychain on the 1Pad prior to attempting to sync.

I searched till my bed time (google was sure no help) but since I don't have an iPad (wifey want let me near it) I have to go from memory here, from what I remember you have to create a new keychain on the iPad before you try to sync, and if you didn't then that would cause the issues i.e. unable to load keys etc.

All this is from memory so hopefully by the time you get a chance to waken then hopefully someone with a little more insight can answer.

    4) Please see this thread for more info it may or may not be helpful to you.

Answers: 1. Yes. I am able to "Dropbox" sync between my iMac and MacBook Pro.

    2. I Tried to WiFi sync before going to Dropbox but had trouble finding the two "Secrets", gave up and decided to go Dropbox.

    3. Yes. I installed 1Password for iPad and created a couple of logins. Later, I installed 1Password for Mac on my iMac and created several logins. After that, I attempted to sync the iPad via Dropbox.

It sounds like a simple issue of the ws.agile.1Password.settings file not reference the correct location. We can probably resolve this very quickly with a Diagnostics Report. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.

    Hey there, burgmanguy!

I replied to your email, but I also wanted to follow up here in case it might help anyone else. I don't see anything amiss in your Diagnostics Report, so that is good news. Also, 1Password for iPad is not able to generate Diagnostics Reports, so you're all set!

From reading your original post, it sounds like you may be trying to sync your 1Password data on your iPad using the Dropbox app. Since iOS doesn't allow apps to interact with eachother for the most part, we actually have Dropbox sync'ing support built right in to the 1Password app -- you don't need to use the Dropbox app at all (unless you are using it for other things). In order to get 1Password on your iPad to sync with Dropbox, just set it up in the 1Password app itself by following these steps:

Launch 1Password on your iPad and go to Settings > Sync > Dropbox, and turn Dropbox Sync ON.
Enter your Dropbox login information (and the Master Password for the 1Password data on your computer, if prompted) and your 1Password data will be automatically synchronized between all of your devices in the background!
..That's it!

I hope this helps. Please let me know how it turns out. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • Brenty,

In your last comment you said:

"Launch 1Password on your iPad and go to Settings > Sync > Dropbox, and turn Dropbox Sync ON."

I just downloaded the iPad app and only have two options when I open the APP: New Database or Sync Existing

So what should I do here? Neither seems right.
