Importing .CSV file into Software section

I have been keeping my software keys in a Filemaker database forever, but would love to leave that behind for the usefulness of 1Password, i.e. single location, iOS compatibility, Dropbox syncing etc.

I tried to import a .csv format file of my Filemaker data, and the 1Password import assistant saw it and sorted it into columns just fine, but there was no option for tying the columns to fields in the Software listing section, just tie-ins for Secure Notes and Logins. Why not Software??

Am I missing something? it seems simple enough, the fields already exist in the 1Password Software database.

Hello Toby and welcome to the Forums!

Unfortunately, at this time, 1Password for Mac will only import entries as Logins (with a URL) or Secure Notes (without a URL) .

However, another Forum member found a workaround for importing software licenses that worked for him. You may wish to give it a try: Software License Import Magic

If you decide to use his method, I hope it works for you too.

    Cheers!

I have a several important tips to add that will help people import Software registrations from FileMaker Pro or any text file into the Software section of 1Password.

My complete write up with pictures & everything is freely available at the following link.

    http://www.nathanson.org/davesays/2011/import-software-serial-numbers-1password-filemaker-pro/

Export your software registrations from the other solution. it MUST be comma delimited. If your data included commas, you can export it as Tab delimited, then find/replace the commas, then find/replace the tabs to be commas. I used TextWrangler for that, it was great.

Do NOT allow a space after the commas because that will add a space to the beginning of the next field.

You MUST use Windows line endings, those is CRLF. (TextWrangler can do that under Edit menu -> Document Options.

Export your data, or rearrange the columns so that you have them in this order:

    title,version,serial number,registered name,registered email,reg company,publisher,website,support email,purchase date,currency,price,order number,notes

Import your text file as a LicenseKeeper format and your records will be able to go into the Software section of 1Password.

    Enjoy!

A brief look at the site and the article looks good, I don't have anything to try it on myself everything is already in 1P or MAS (Mac APP Store).

Thanks for posting this and for taking the time to write it up. I am assuming since you posted it here, you would in fact not mind if I or the others provided links to you site to the article.

That enjoy portion really gave it away . Again thanks as I know some could will benefit from this.
