<div class="IPBDescription">1password cannot see dropbox files on Android</div>NOTE: I deleted Chrisso's original post by accident. Following is the substance of the issues relayed in the post. Sorry about that Chrisso...my bad! bswins

Having problems setting up Dropbox sync with Android.

Tried selecting SD card as Data File's location. After doing this, receives error message.

Can see 1Password.agilekeychain in Dropbox folder, so Desktop setup appears to function properly.

Would like help setting up the 1P4A app to use the 1P keychain located in Dropbox folder.

    Hello Chrisso,

I do not use the Android app, personally, but I set it up on my mum's phone. The following information is taken from a 1Password for Android blog post.
If you have a 1Password. agilekeychain in the root directory of your SD card, the application will find it automatically and assume that you want to use this local file. However, if you want to take advantage of Dropbox Integration, move this file to any subfolder on the SD card or delete it. In this case the application will ask for the Data File’s location and present you with two options: use locally stored file or synchronize with Dropbox. Refer to the information below on how to setup Dropbox Integration.

    To sync using Dropbox:

If your data is already being synced via Dropbox on a desktop or laptop, you can simply log into your Dropbox account from 1Password for Android.

That’s it! You can now launch 1Password on your Android phone. You should see the unlock screen where you can enter the same Master Password that you used on the Desktop.
This is the procedure I used when setting up Dropbox syncing on my mother's phone. If the procedures do not work for you and/or something changed in the latest BETA versions, please let us know. We'll get you up and running very soon!

    Cheers!

  • Thanks for the advice bswins, but i am not doing something right as when I open 1password I get the Welcome to 1password screen. It only gives me the option of "Use local keychain" button. It won't give me any other options No Menu, no other buttons, any suggestions?
  • Am I on the right track. I have got it to work by doing this. I copied the Dropbox folder from my mac onto my Android phone. This folder was missing a file that was present on the Dropbox website called .ws.agile.1password.settings, I copied that to the Dropbox folder on the SD card.

My understanding now is I can access 1password files via SD card but I have to update them by syncing phone with computer via USB connection.

Does this mean there is no way (and never was) of 1password syncing with 1password website via Dropbox? as my home and work computers do

    Cheers

    Hello Chris,

I see from the screenshot that your version of 1Password for Android is way too old.

Please upgrade the application from Market to the latest release.

It is absolutely possible to load your secure items on your phone from Dropbox server as many thousands of 1Password for Android users do on the regular basis.

If you prefer, you may decide to keep 1Password data file with your secure items on your phone's SD card and access it locally, in this case no Dropbox server is required.

Please review 1Password for Android help file for more information and let me know if you need an additional help, I will be glad to assist you further.

    Best regards,

    Gene

  • Hey Gene,

Actually, the screen shot was my fault. I copied them from an old Blog post on the site.

However, I hope the directions posted along side the pictures is accurate.

Regardless, I hope Chris has the information he needs to get his Android and Dropbox syncing properly.

    Hello Bswins,

I am glad that the issue Chris was having has been resolved.

I see he is already on the right track.

I completely agree that configuring 1Password Reader for syncing with Dropbox is a preferable way but some customer

want to have their 1Password keychains to be kept locally on SD cards. That is nice that we support both of these options.

  • Thanks for the advice, guys

Now that I know that I can sync via the website that would be my preferred option. And what's more I have found how to do it. One last question do I have to manually synchronize or is it an automatic thing when you sign in on your phone

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

Currently the only sync option on the phone is "Sync on Demand", meaning that you need to use Sync Menu option.

In future releases of the application we may introduce sync on application start-up and at certain predefined intervals.

    Regards,

    Gene
