Feature Request: Password history for non-Login items

<div class="IPBDescription">Only Login items currently store a password history</div>Hi,

I've just almost managed to lock myself out of a system due to a stupid mistake. This issue would have been easy to fix if non-logins (in that case, accounts) also stored a password history. Then I could have just reverted to the previous, correct entry. But since such a history does not exist, I had to use the Dropbox history to revive my correct password.

I think it would improve safety and user-friendliness (consistency) if entries other than logins stored a password history, too. Could such a feature please be implemented? Thanks!

Regards,

Markus

    Welcome to the forums, Markus!

I am kind of surprised this has not come up before. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Thanks for mentioning it! I will certainly pass this along to the developers.

I'm going to add myself to this request (again). This request was made by myself and others some time ago in the old forums, although I can't find the thread in the new forums. But I do see it requested by this user over a year ago.

    Suggestion Password History

I am using 1password as best I can for Unix account passwords on a number of systems at a number of sites. For security reasons, they all expire passwords every 90 days and track the previous 10 passwords. So a history is critical for the Accounts feature to work the way I need it to. Obviously, some sort of API for password history is available under Login Items, so it seems like it could be added to Account items.

My suggestion would be to have a button that would "expire" a password and move it into the encrypted history field. Currently, I do that manually by cut/pasting the now expired password into the Notes section of the Account entry. I would prefer it be encrypted for good measure and be automated.

This should also be flexible enough to allow for manually and automatically generated passwords. For some sites, I still rely on my own mnemonic tricks to generate a password, but for others, I have gone to using the 1password generator.

I would be happy to describe a typical use-case for my own situation if you need any additional input to design the feature.

Thanks for writing 1password for us!

I should have been more specific: I was surprised that I had not seen this come up before. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

I will pass this along the the developers on your behalf! In the meantime, your current workaround is what I would have recommended.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

    Hello again,

I was wondering what is the likelihood of getting this feature added?

With the new iOS version out, I am wondering about upgrading. I would be much more inclined to do so if I thought enhancement requests were being considered. This feature has been requested by myself and others for a few years now. Honestly, as a software developer myself, I can't see that it would be that difficult to add the history feature to non-logins since the architecture for history support is clearly available in the codebase now.

    Thank you,

Accounts items have been converted to Logins in 1Password 4, so in that sense this has been resolved. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

1Password 4 for Mac should close the loop on this. I don't have a time frame for a specific release, but you can be sure we will be announcing it very loudly.

    Cheers,
