<div class="IPBDescription">Trying to sync with iphone/ipad</div>I am trying to set up syncing from 1password to the iphone/ipad. Tried dropbox but that's another problem so I tried to set up wifi syncing. There is no SYNC option in the top menu bar like there is in the example on the tutorial where I can plug in the secret codes from the iphone.

I am using the latest version of 1password on a macbook pro running os 10.6.7.

Any ideas? Thanks!

    Welcome to the forums, Rick!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble syncing. Please update 1Password for Mac to the latest version as we have made some changes with regard to syncing. (1Password > Check for Updates…)

Once you have verified that you are running 1Password for Mac 3.5.9 (1Password > About 1Password), let's continue.

Before I go too far, I just want to mention that Dropbox syncing is fully automatic, does not require you to even be near your computer, and is our recommended method of securely syncing.

With Dropbox syncing, you can keep 1Password up to date from across town or across the country — anywhere you have an Internet connection. You Mac doesn't even have to be turned on!

I would strongly advise going with Dropbox syncing. It is more robust (read: easier to set up) and just as secure as Wi-Fi syncing. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

If you would prefer to stick with manually syncing via Wi-Fi, please read on.

On your Mac, if your iOS device is already listed in the sidebar under the SYNC section, please remove it by right-clicking on it and selecting "Delete…" It sounds like this is precisely the problem you having, though: nothing is listed here. Don't worry! We'll get you sorted out.

IMPORTANT: Because of the Bonjour networking service that Apple provides for Wi-Fi syncing, please restart your Mac and iOS device before proceeding further. You can restart your iOS device by holding down both the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears.

After restarting, please open Terminal (found in your /Applications/Utilities folder). Copy and paste this line into Terminal and press Return:
defaults write ws.agile.1Password ShowWiFiSyncAuthAutomatically -bool YES
Now, please open 1Password on your Mac and iOS device.

On your iOS device, go to Settings > Sync and turn WiFi Sync ON, then follow these steps:

    1. Tap "Allow New Connections"

    2. 1Password on your iOS device will display two secret sync codes.

You’ll need these in a minute.

    3. On your Mac you should be prompted to enter the codes automatically

    4. Click "OK" and begin configuring your sync options.

    5. Click "Sync" to perform a sync operation.

If you are still stuck, please take a look at our Wi-Fi Sync Troubleshooting Guide.

Please let me know how it turns out, or if you have any additional questions.

    Thanks!

Ok, I've gotten the problem with dropbox fixed and it commucicates with my iphone now. So I go into dropbox on the iphone and try to log in for 1password syncing.

    I turned on Dropbox sync.

Under account I entered my dropbox username and password. Pressed sync and the app says master password was incorrect and I should change my "master password" I assume this is for 1password. I went into security in 1password several times and reset and changed the password to my 1password master password. I still get the error.

Am I confused about whose passwords to enter where?

What is the difference between "reset password" and "change password"?

There are a lot of passwords and codes to keep track of. (That's why you probably bought 1Password in the first place. ) I'll give a list of the ones used in Dropbox syncing.

iOS device passcode - used to unlock your iPhone or iPad when first turning it on

This is unrelated to 1Password, but you will obviously need it in order to access your iOS device if you have it enabled (which we strongly recommend).

1Password for iPhone unlock code - used to unlock 1Password for iPhone and gain access to low-security items and settings

This makes it easier to switch back and forth between apps without having to type in a longer, more complicated master password every time.

1Password for iPhone master password - used to gain full access to all 1Password for iPhone data

You will be prompted whenever you are trying to access a high-security item (beyond the Auto-Lock timeout duration) or a setting that requires further authentication. Called "Master password for iPhone" during Dropbox setup.

1Password for iPad master password - used to gain full access to all 1Password for iPad data

You will be prompted for this every time you launch 1Password for iPad.

Dropbox password - used to login to the Dropbox application and website

This is only related to 1Password insofar as it is required to access your data file for Dropbox-based syncing.

1Password data file master password - used to gain full access to 1Password for Mac and/or Windows and 1PasswordAnywhere

This can be thought of as the "main" password. All your data can be accessed with this password. Even if you lose your iOS device(s), you can set up Dropbox syncing on a new device using this data file and password. You are only prompted to enter it on your Mac or Windows computer and when accessing 1PasswordAnywhere. If your 1Password for iOS master password is different than this password, you will be prompted to enter it when setting up Dropbox syncing on your iOS device, otherwise, you will not be prompted for this anywhere in 1Password for iOS. Called "Master password on Mac or PC" during Dropbox setup.
All of these passwords are set independently, so it is up to you if they are all identical or unique. We recommend always using unique passwords for everything, but the choice is yours.

There should be no need to reset or change any passwords while setting up Dropbox syncing on your iPhone, though. Could you please take a screenshot so we can see the problem? You can take a screenshot by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons on your iPhone simultaneously. This will take a picture of your screen and save it to your Camera Roll. You can email it to yourself and then attach it to a reply to this message. Or you can can email it directly to us if that is easier for you. Just be sure to include a link to this forum thread in your email, so we can "connect the dots" when we see the screen shot in our inbox if you do. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks!
