Feature request: Third-party integration API

<div class="IPBDescription">1Password and Mailplane.app</div>Hi guys,

Hope you're having fun developing 1Password.

I have a feature request for you. I really enjoy using 1Password and I'm sure that my passwords and licenses are safe. However, I also use quite often Mailplane.app for my Gmail and Google Apps accounts. As far as I know, Mailplane.app uses system Safari to work, so I thought I'd be nice to have access to my passwords in any way (say, context menu, or you may go even further) in the application. I already contacted the developer of Mailplane.app, Ruben Bakker, and he said he'd love to integrate Mailplane.app with 1Password if 1Password had API for such integration.

Currently, Mailplane.app uses Keychain for password storage (globally in the app) and I have no access to 1Password from the browser's context menu. I assume, that at least context menu integration could be implemented quite easily, you just need to know what to do <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

What do you think?

Regards,

Vera

Hey there, Vera; welcome to the forums!

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I was not familiar with Mailplane. While we don't currently have plans to implement something like this, it is certainly something we may consider going forward. Unfortunately, Lion is doing away with scripting additions, which is what we use for our WebKit support in Snow Leopard (e.g. Fluid, Safari, etc.)

Our solution for Safari 5.1 in Lion is a brand new, from the ground up extension using Safari's fairly new extension framework. Of course, this doesn't help other WebKit-based apps. While I don't know the deeper technical details, I do know that we at AgileBits are huge fans of Fluid. In fact, not a day goes by that some member of the team running Lion does not bemoan our lack of integration with it in the new OS. I suspect that we will have to come up for a solution to that problem, and perhaps other apps that use WebKit may also benefit from this. It may not be technically feasible, however. Only time will tell, though.

It is likely that if we cannot find a solution that works for a many of these types of browsers/apps, we will not have the resources to dedicate to supporting individual ones. I am sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now, but I hope you will stick around, enjoy the community, and maybe we will have good news for you later on! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
