Folder incorrectly selected on startup
Hi,
1Password won't remember to go into the Login's folder, if that was the active folder when I last shut it down then re-opened it.
If I shut down 1Password and I'm in any of my custom folders, it'll remember to place me in that folder when I next start 1Password.
For some reason this doesn't work if I'm in any of the Vault folders like Login (as I use this folder view the most).
Is this a problem with my installation (and can it be fixed), or something to do with 1Password?
Any help appreciated.

Hello pbryanw,
I was unable to reproduce this behavior using OS X 10.6.7 and either 1Password 3.5.9 or 1Password 3.6.0 Beta-42.
I'm hoping a simple data file rebuild (Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File) or clearing the cache (Help > Troubleshooting > Clear Cache ) should be all that is necessary.
If neither of those options work, it would be very helpful for us to have a look at your Diagnostics Report, as something may be amiss on your Mac.
To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilewebsolutions.com.
Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.
Cheers!

Hi,
Thanks for your help & reply. I seem to have stumbled onto the reason for my problem. I had Tags unticked in the "Display in Sidebar" preference.
When I did this, the problem appeared. I've just re-enabled Tags in my preferences, and 1Password now remembers my last logged on folder.
The solution seems a bit strange, but the problem is repeatable by disabling Tags.
I wonder why this happens on my installation?
Thanks, PaulFlag 0 -
Paul,
I was able to reproduce your experience by unchecking "Tags" in "Display in Sidebar" for both the stable and beta versions of 1P (3.5.9 & 3.6.0 BETA-42, respectively).
I'll pass this along to the developers for review. I'm not sure why this may be desired program behavior, but I'll find out.
Regardless, very nice catch!
Thanks for your efforts.
Cheers!

I can't seem to reproduce this on my machine. Here is what I tried:

Disable "Tags" display (Preferences > General > Display in Sidebar)

Select an item in the Logins vault

Quit 1Password.app

Open 1Password.app

The same Login is still selected

Enable "Tags" display (Preferences > General > Display in Sidebar)

Select an item in the Logins vault

Quit 1Password.app

Open 1Password.app

The same Login is still selected
Results were identical in both 3.5.9 and 3.6.0.BETA-42. Could either of you give a list of the specific steps you are taking to reproduce the issue? Maybe I am unclear on what the issue even is.
Thanks for your help!Flag 0 -

Hi,
The same Login is selected when you disable tags (which I didn't realise). However, the selected folder on the left of your screen, should have changed when you disabled Tags.
With Tags disabled, the selected folder changes from one of the Vault items (if that was selected), to one of the Folders directly below the Vault folders.
The Login item remains the same though.
Hopefully you can replicate this.
Kind Regards, PaulFlag 0 -
Khad,
I think the confusion revolves around the OP's mention of "custom folders" vs. Logins.
If you select a "custom folder" or Smart Folder before and after deselecting "Tags", you should see the behavior.
As is evidenced by my first post, I wasn't sure of the OP's original problem. After a reread, I was able to produce what I believed to be the issue.
Let me know if I'm being clear. For some reason, I don't feel like I am. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

P.S. Based on Paul's most recent post, I may have reported a different experience. I selected a Smart Folder in 1P and then closed the app. With "Tags" enabled, I reopened to the same Smart Folder. If I then deselected "Tags", 1P opens in the Logins vault.Flag 0 -
So I need to (1) have a folder, (2) have an item in a folder, and (3) select that same item in the Logins vault before relaunching 1Password? I don't have any folders — I only use tags — so perhaps that is where the confusion was. I will try what I think are the steps to reproduce and get back to you.
In the meantime, maybe I am just being dense, but a numbered list (like I provided above) of steps to reproduce would really be helpful. I think I am just getting more confused now. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Yep. That's what it was. Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a folder (if you don't already have any).
2. Place an item in the folder. (We'll call it "Item X".)
3. Select the Logins vault
4. Select "Item X" within the Logins vault
5. Relaunch 1Password
6. Rather than being selected inside the Logins vault as you left it, "Item X" is selected within the folder where you have placed it.
Reproduced. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
This is actually a "known issue". I thought it sounded familiar, but I thought it was resolved. There was a very closely related issue that was resolved, but as all of us can attest to (myself included finally <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_tongueout.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-P' />) this specific issue is not resolved just yet.
FWIW, I did actually create a folder to test this, but I was selecting it within the folder before relaunching. That behaves as expected. I also don't see any correlation between the Tags display in the sidebar and this particular issue. Please let me know if you can prove otherwise.
Thanks for putting up with me. I can be a little slow sometimes. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
If there is anything else I can help with...you might want to ask someone else. Just kidding, of course. I am always happy to help.

Sorry for confusing everyone <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I was just typing a list of steps, when you posted (and correctly identified the issue).
Next time I have a problem with 1Password, I'll write a list of steps (promise), as I can see it makes the problem easier to reproduce.

Just wanted to add one last thing to this thread.
The reproducible steps in your post #9, they only occur when I have Tags disabled in my sidebar. With tags enabled, the bug is non-present.
This may be down to something with my installation - I don't know?
Just thought I should mention it, as there seems to be a correlation between Tags display and this behaviour - on my machine at least.Flag 0 -
pbryanw,
Thanks for the additional information. I had the same experience when I tested. If you refer back to my posts ( #4 and #8 ), I always opened back in the Logins vault when Tags were disabled in the sidebar. So, I don't believe there is anything wrong with your installation, and I've noticed a correlation on my machine too.
To be clear about what I am experiencing, I have a Smart Folder with a TD Ameritrade login listed as the 3rd entry. I highlighted the TD Ameritrade entry in my Smart Folder. I then closed and reopened the 1Password application under the following conditions:
1. With "Tags" checked in the Display in Sidebar on the Preferences > General tab, I reopen with TD Ameritrade highlighted in my Smart Folder.
2. With "Tags" unchecked, I reopen with TD Ameritrade highlighted in my Logins vault.
3. If I select TD Ameritrade in my Logins vault, I reopen on TD Ameritrade in my Logins vault regardless of whether "Tags" is checked or unchecked.
Certainly not a big deal to me, but I wanted to let you know that your experience appears normal.

pbryanw,
Just wanted to update the thread to state that this behavior appears to be corrected.
I'm running 1Password Version 3.6.1 (build 31057) on OS X 10.7 (Build 11A494a).
If you've upgraded to 3.6.1, please let me know if the latest stable build works for you too.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm running 1Password 3.6.1 (build 31057) on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and the problem still occurs for me.
(EDIT: Video removed)
It's only a minor problem for me, and could be intended behaviour on 1Password's part?Flag 0 -
pbryanw,
Thanks for following up.
Well, I rebooted my computer earlier, and now it's back. Weird.
Oh well. So much for that brief moment of happiness. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
According to Khad, it's a known issue...although, in my one instance it appeared to work.
As with you, it's a minor thing. Doesn't affect my user experience.
Regardless, loved your video. I watched it in HD, and it was just like being there!
