Do I have to use Dropbox to sync between windows and mac?

Hi,

I recently bought 1password; so I'm fairly new to it <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I was wondering if there was another way than using dropbox to synchronize 1password between my mac and my windows pc?

Thanks,

Kandjar

    Hello Kandjar,

At this time, the only cloud method for automatically syncing 1P for Mac and 1P for Windows is Dropbox. Please see the following post for verification: Sharing 1P file with Mac and PC

There are other ways to keep your Mac and Windows platforms in sync, but none offer automatic/instant synching.

Due to recent events in the press, if you are concerned with using Dropbox, please take a look at a post from AgileBits' security guru, Jeff Goldberg: Dropbox are a Security Liability!!!

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Cheers!

Just to be clear, Jeff isn't saying that Dropbox are a security liability, he's commenting on a post made by another user <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Dropbox is, by far, the best way to sync your 1Password data right now, it's reliable, works automatically and more importantly because your 1Password data are encrypted using 128-bit AES encryption, and accessible only with your master password, it means that Dropbox effectively has no involvement in the security of your 1Password data.

That doesn't mean we won't look for alternatives, but so far Dropbox is the only solution that meets all of our needs right now, so it's the only one we recommend and feel confident in supporting.

    Thanks,

    Excellent point Stu!

I'm in the habit of making the title of my links the same as the title of the topic to which I link.

In the context of my comment, I can see how using the actual topic title was not such a good idea!

I'll have to remember this situation in the future.

It's not that Dropbox is the only cloud method for automatically sync'ing 1Password data between a Mac and a PC, but that Dropbox is the only method for automatically sync'ing 1Password data between a Mac and a PC.

None that I know of. Unless it's automatic, it's just "copy and paste."

If you are on the same LAN, then in theory you can use the same network share, but this isn't officially supported.

It wouldn't be sync'ing, though; and I'd be worried about write conflicts.

This is the most important point about putting the 1Password data on a shared drive.

That link is dead. Can you please give the new link?

jd4840, please note that moving your 1Password data is not the same as sync'ing your 1Password data.

To truly share and sync your 1Password data among PCs, Macs, and mobile devices (iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 7), you need to set up 1Password and Dropbox as described in the following documents.

    The "big picture":
It's not just that Dropbox is the best way to sync your 1Password data, but that Dropbox is the only sync method available to folks using 1Password for Windows.
