Firefox 5 add-on not working

hi guys,

the 1password add-on for firefox 5 is not working for me. it shows as activated in my add-ons menu, but the 1P button in FF near the address bar does nothing and the contextual menu does not "expand" (1password shows in the context menu, but when hovering over it no sub menu appears).

Tried removing the extension and rebooting FF. Tried reinstalling 1password. Help & thanks!

Comments

  • tried quitting FF & removing the extensions via 1P. started FF again & noticed that both the FF4 & FF5 versions of the extension were installed. removed the 1P FF4 extension within FF. After restarting FF, now just the FF5 extension shows as installed & all is well!!
  • The problem persists.

If you log out or start again (SnwoLeo, Firefox 5 and 1Password 3.6.0), If you then start and unlock 1Password again, it will install once more the Firefox5-Extension and the 4-Extension. It removes the existing Firefox5-Extension to the trash and install a new one (Version is the same). The Firefox4-Extension (wich is also then installed) is shown as deactivated. When i delete the extension (Firefox4), log off an start OSX and 1Password (and then Firefox5) again, the procedure is repeated automatically.

Hello sfev and Georgdb! Welcome to the Forums!

Please review Khad's instructions regarding the installation for 1P's Firefox 5 extension. There are some troubleshooting steps listed for the issue you both mentioned.

    Firefox 5 support added in 1Password 3.6.0

If you still have problems, please reply back.

    Cheers!

Thank you for the quick reply. But the problem persists. Even after checking the advice. Even after a clean install of Firefox. Without any other addons... Here is the Screenshot (Attachment).

Repeating the processes (as advised) does not help. Also a restart of OSX does not help.. .
  • I can confirm this problem. Maybe it is a localization problem? I use the german language.

    Best regards,

Hallo Kay! Willkommen auf den Foren!

I had a similar experience with the English localization. Based on the screen shot provided by Georgdb, my solution was to select "Entfernen" for the Firefox 4 extension.

I closed and relaunched Firefox 5, and the extension worked from then on. Please try this method and report back with your results.

[s]In fact, there may be a localization problem, but I'd like to see if removing the Firefox 4 extension works first.[/s]

    Danke!

    Brandt

@ Georgdb -- I appreciate the screen shot!
  • It appears that Georgdb has attempted to remove the Firefox 4 add-on, but has not been able to have success with the Firefox 5 extension.

As another potential workaround, please review Khad's following post: Firefox 4 and 5

In his comment is a link to creating separate profiles in Firefox. I have not had to try this solution, but it may be worth a look if you still experience problems.

Regardless, please reply with your current status. We would love to resolve the issue for you.

I'm not sure everyone is having the same problem. Do you have Firefox 4 installed in addition to Firefox 5, or are you only trying to get 1Password working in Firefox 5. The Firefox 4 extension will always be shown as incompatible with Firefox 5 (because it is), but the Firefox 5 extension should work in Firefox 5.

Please let me know some more details about each of your specific setups and what you are trying to accomplish. It may be best to shoot us an email at support@agilebits.com so we can avoid confusing multiple issues for different users.

    Thanks!
  • The version of Firefox is defently 5.0 (1Password 3.6.0, OSX 10.6.7).

The Firefox 5-Extension works fine in Firefox 5. But the Firefox4-Extension will be reinstalled too (and appears new as described as a disabled Extension).

To understand: Firefox 5 is the Browser. I activate in 1Password the Firefox-Extension. In Firefox appears the Firefox5-Extension (working fine) and the Firefox-4-Extension (shown as disabled. I have removed the Firefox4-Extension wich automatic had been installed as advised. Now. I quit all programs. I log out (OSX). Start a new session. I start the 1Password-App and Firefox 5. And again: Firefox5-Extension works fine, but a new Firefox4-Extension will be reinstalled (but disabled). And a copy of the Firefox5-Extension appears in the Trash. Otherwise the Firefox5-Extension works fine. But the constant reappearance of the Firefox4-Extension and the Trash-Copy of the Firefox5-Extension (under the described conditions) is the problem.

    I greet you all, Georgdb

Thanks for the update, Kay! I'm glad things are working well for you. On behalf of Brandt, you are quite welcome! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Georgdb, it sounds like everything is working normally. 1Password 3.6.0 supports both Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 so if you have Firefox support enabled, both extensions will load. It does no harm to have the Firefox 4 extension disabled in Firefox 5. Its code is never loaded in Firefox 5. Is this preventing you from using 1Password or Firefox in some way?

    Please let me know. Thanks!
  • Of course not! It's just an 'unusual' behavior of this Software-Combination and irritating to find this additional non-activated extension in Firefox.

Otherwise the two programs work well. And 1Password ist just 1Password. Indispensable.

    Kind regards, Georgdb

    Had a similar problem here.

Although I could remove the 1P Firefox 4 add-on in Firefox 5 the add-on kept reappearing and being disabled. Even though the Firefox 5 add-on was present.

    Eventually fixed it by

Removing the Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 1P add-on from within Firefox 5

    Close Firefox

    Then using Intego's Washing Machine:-

Cleaned all the Firefox Cache - (HDNAME / Users / USERS NAME / Library / Caches / Firefox {deletes all in this folder})

    Cleaned the Firefox Cookies - (HDNAME / Users / USERS NAME / Library / Application Support / Firefox / Profiles / duutspbt.default / cookies.sqlite {deletes this file})

    Restarted

Reselected Firefox Add-on installation from 1P Preference settings.

    Restart Firefox. and 'Hey Presto'

No guarantees, follow this at your own risk, I think it was the cache one that did it for me though.

Since this procedure the symptoms have not returned.

    Thanks for the updates, folks.

Just an additional word of caution: we have seen some "cleaning"/"uninstaller" applications delete users' data files, so please be sure you have a backup before proceeding with any applications of that nature. Focusing on the Firefox data should not pose a risk to your 1Password data, but you can never be too careful! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
  • I simply can't get rid of the 1P FF 4 extension permanently.

I'm using FF5 with 1P 3.6.0 DE-localized. The 1P extension works perfectly with FF5. I can even successfully remove the old 1P extension for FF4. It is gone the next time I start FF5.

BUT: if I start the 1Password application (regardless of whether FF is running or not), the 1P extension for FF4 shows up again in Firefox 5!!! I can reproduce this over and over again.

I've tried every method in the book / described in this forum. But it seems to be something the 1Password application does.

    Maybe a bug?

P.S. Could this be related to problems with the DE localization? The Mac OS console app show numerous localization error messages?

For whatever reason, it took me a few tries, using the Sticky'ed advice for 1PW 3.6 and FF 5 - failed several times last night. (Edit: on reflection, I think I assumed I was on the very latest version of 1PW last night, and I think I wasn't because when I started 1PW today it offered to upgrade itself... then the FF process went smoothly. So, don't skip that 'check for updates' step!)

But this morning, I went through the step by step again... and yea! - 1PW is all the places it usually is in FireFox 5.

I empathize with the frustration some of us are encountering... but on OS X 10.6.8 / 1PW 3.6.0 (build 31043) / and FF 5.0 - all is, finally and again, well.

The 1PW team tries harder than any other Co. I know to anticipate changes in OS and a host of third party apps like Dropbox that so many of us use, and make these transitions as smooth as possible for users. And of course they'll fail to achieve perfection, and some of us will struggle. But damn, they really do try. Also, they are much better at communicating with their user-base, at least those that venture to these Forums, than any other company I can think of, including my beloved Dropbox.

Thank you for the instructions that ultimately worked for me; and thank you for 1PW and for your great dev team and support community.

    Hallo Xenos,

Please see Khad's earlier post: FF4 & FF5 extensions will both load...all is well.

I know it's an eyesore for some users (like me), but it has no effect whatsoever on functionality.

Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns.

    Danke,

    Brandt

P.S. This is not related to the DE or any other localization. I hinted that it could be in one of my prior posts, but I was incorrect. This experience is expected behavior.

    Hey Alex!

Thanks for updating the thread with your success story...the more the better! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

In addition, thank you for the kind words and understanding regarding the constant failures we all experience while chasing perfection.

Luckily, AgileBits has the best customers in the world, and you are [s]a perfect[/s] an excellent example! (need to watch that "perfect" word! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />)

I am as impatient as the next person, and I don't always check my emotions at the door. However, in order to provide a useful app, it is important to listen to the masses...whether the feedback is positive or negative.

I'm happy that you are having a positive experience with 1P, and I'm certain the whole team appreciates your comments.

    Cheers!
