1PW3 data copying to flash drive for Windows PC

I will be away from my iMac visiting. A Mac not available, only a Windows (XP) PC without Dropbox!

I need a step-by-step to (temporarily) copy my data files (with logins and passwords) to friend's PC so I can access my sites. Have checked help & tutorials however not really the step-by-step assistance that I would need.

I got as far as file/"export" but am not sure that is correct way to copy my data on to a USB drive and to be able to access it on her PC.....

Is this possible? And, is it too complicated for a newbie like me?

many thanks,

    Hello tuni,

Since you will only be visiting your friend, perhaps the least problematic solution is for you to use the 1PasswordAnywhere function. This method does not require you to use Dropbox (which is not an option in your case), nor does it require you to install 1P on your friend's PC (which you could do my downloading the 30-day Free trial on AB's 1P for Windows page)

I know you mentioned that the help guides did not provide the assistance you are looking for, but I want to mention them here for others who may come across this thread:

    1PasswordAnywhere & Troubleshooting 1PasswordAnywhere Issues

For your situation, it may be easiest to copy your 1Password.agilekeychain to a USB flash drive and access your data from that drive when using your friend's PC.

    To accomplish this:

    1. Locate your 1Password.agilekeychain on your iMac. By default, it is located in ~/Library/Application Support/1Password/, where ”~” equals your Home user library. If it is not there, you can find the location by looking on the 1Password > Preferences > General tab.

    2. Copy the 1Password.agilekeychain to your USB flash drive.

    3. Plug the flash drive into your friend's PC.

    4. Navigate to the flash drive and find the 1Password.agilekeychain, which will look like a folder instead of a file on a Windows system (though this is normal).

    5. Inside the 1Password.agilekeychain folder, open the 1Password.html file in your default browser either by double-clicking the file or by using your browser’s File > Open option.

    6. Enter your Master Password and enjoy!

In the help guides linked above, please note that there are some limitations with certain browsers like IE 8 and Chrome.

Please let us know if these instructions better meet your needs. I want you to enjoy your 1P data with the least amount of heartache, and I'll be happy to discuss the procedure with you until you are satisfied.

    Cheers!

    Brandt,

That looks like it will work. I mis-communicated when I said I wanted to install 1PW on her PC, I only want to be able to access my data files..I'll try copy the agilekeychain to a flash and go from there. Just want to be able to get/see/work with "my stuff" while I'm there - will start with your step 1 & 2, and let you inow how I make out. Many thanks.

    tuni,

I don't believe you miscommunicated, but perhaps I wasn't very clear with my reply.

You do not have to install 1P on your friend's computer. There is a file located inside your 1Password.agilekeychain bundle/folder called 1Password.html.

That file will give you the ability to use your 1P data without having to install then 1P app. Please take a look at steps 3-5 and let me know if you get to step 6. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Brandt,

Now I'm really confused. Went to Library/app.support/1PW as you suggested - agilekeychain not there! (at least I don't see it) <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Then I went to 1PW>Pref.>General and I see this: <users>tuni>dropbox>1Password.agilekeychain>

that didn't seem right, so I went to Dropbox, found agilekeychain but:

    Where the heck is "iPassword.html?"

    tuni,

The first time I looked for the file, I was confused too!

You will need to copy (not move) your 1Password.agilekeychain from your Dropbox folder to your USB flash drive.

As for finding the 1Password.html file, please review the video found on 1P's help site: 1PasswordAnywhere A picture is worth a thousand words!

Please note that when you access the 1P keychain from a Windows computer, the 1Password.agilekeychain will appear to be a Folder. This is normal, and it should make it more intuitive to use.

Let me know if this additional information has helped or hurt your understanding.

    ok Brandt-

let me see if I have it this time:

I went to preferences<general - selected agilekeychain and placed it in Finder. Guess it wasn't there. Now I see an option to "burn agilekeychain to disk" or option to copy....I think that's what you are saying and I'm just extremely dense today. Maybe I couldn't find it because it wasn't in "Finder"?

Now I can burn it (I think) or copy it (hopefully) to an USB external drive, right?

Does that sound correct to you now?

Many thanks and sorry to be so much trouble here.

    tuni,

    You aren't being any trouble at all. No worries! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I'll relay the steps I just used to copy my keychain to a USB drive. Hopefully, when you stated that you "placed it in Finder", you meant "Show in Finder". If not, let me know.

    1. In 1P > Preferences > General, I located the Data File location....which is my Dropbox folder too.

    2. I navigated to my Dropbox folder, and opened the folder.

    3. I selected/highlighted the 1Password.agilekeychain file. I right-clicked on the file and selected Copy "1Password.agilekeychain"

    4. Next, I selected the USB flash drive in Finder, and from the Finder menu, I selected Edit > Paste Item.

Now, a copy of my keychain is on my USB flash drive.

Does this sound like what you did? If you actually moved the 1Password.agilekeychain file out of your Dropbox folder, you will need to go back to 1P > Preferences > General and move it back.

Please let me know where you stand. I know this isn't a lot of fun, but the first time is usually the hardest.

Whew! I finally did it (I think). Copied the agilekeychain from "Finder" onto the USB device. Its there - I just checked. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Am going to re-read 1PasswordAnywhere to see if I can more fully understand what I'm doing (have done).

again, many thanks for your patience.
