URL matching

I have a question about URL matching... my situation is as follows...

1st login: https://www.tivo.com

2nd login: https://fieldtrials.tivo.com/login.html

I get prompted to choose the login I want on each page. Shouldn't 1Password be matching these automatically since the location for the 2nd login is that exact URL?

OOPS... This is for Windows, I put it in the wrong forum!

Can I ask what browser you're using with 1Password?

It's happening in both Chrome and IE9.
  • Thanks for the follow-up!

I tried both URLs in Windows 7, using the latest release of Chrome 12 with the latest BETA build of 1Password.

There's no login form at https://www.tivo.com; instead, I had to click a "login" link on that page, and I was redirected to this URL:
http://www3.tivo.com/tivo-tco/login/show.do?cams_original_url=/tivo-tco/go.do%3fdef=forward.mma
There, 1Password offered to save a new Login.

At https://fieldtrials.tivo.com/login.html, 1Password responded to Ctrl+\ by filling in the username and password from the Login it had saved above. When I entered a different password, it offered to update my existing Login with the new information.

So, I'm not able to reproduce the problem you describe, mtehonica.

If you can think of any other information that might help us see the problem, please let us know.

    Thanks for the help DBrown.

I have the same setup, Chrome 12, latest beta of 1P and Windows 7. I deleted both my tivo logins from 1P and went to each site and recreated them. 1P offered to create new logins for each site. But when I try to fill them, it offers both logins and asks me to choose which login I want. I would like it to automatically fill without asking me.

If I double-click each login in 1P the locations show:

    http://www3.tivo.com/tivo-tco/login/show.do?cams_original_url=/tivo-tco/go.do%3fdef=forward.mma -- for tivo.com

    https://fieldtrials.tivo.com/login.html -- for fieldtrials

The main 1P window shows tivo.com for both.

    Hmm...

Your first post—"Shouldn't 1Password be matching these automatically since the location for the 2nd login is that exact URL?"—sounded like you wanted 1Password to use a single Login item for both URLs, which seemed to be what it did in my experiment.

From your follow-up, though—"when I try to fill them, it offers both logins and asks me to choose which login I want. I would like it to automatically fill without asking me"—it sounds like you two separate Login items and have 1Password match each one to the specific URL.

Can you help me understand which is the desired behavior?

    Thanks, mtehonica!

Sorry DBrown! I didn't word it very well... I have a different login for each of these sites and basically, I don't want 1P to prompt me at all. I want to hit Ctrl+\ and it sees www3.tivo.com, have it automatically match it with that login or if it sees fieldtrials.tivo.com, have it automatically fill that login. Does that better describe it?
  • Thanks! That really clears it up.

Make sure each Login item has the full URL specified as its location. If 1Password still equates them as equally applicable, then it's probably because both have tivo.com as the "root" domain. In that case, I don't know of any way to tell 1Password not to consider them equivalent.

Yeah both the locations are set as exactly as possible and it still suggests both so I guess there isn't a solution at this point. Thanks for the help though.

    Hey there, mtehonica!

If I understand you correctly, this is actually something we are working on in our new form filling engine, which is present in our Chrome and Safari 5.1 Mac extensions. While I don't have a timeframe -- and certainly there are no guarantees how the

"final product" will turn out -- I just wanted you to know that we are working on it. Eventually we intend to make all of the improvements we are making in these extensions available on the Windows platform as well. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
