Anomaly in 1Password Unlock Field
I believe 1Password provides excellent protection for my passwords and other sensitive information. That said, one potential achilles heel would be if some malware were to snag my Master Password and use it to access the contents of my 1Password database.
While I think this is unlikely, I've seen something strange and thought I should bring it to Agile's attention. Sometimes when 1Password is locked, and I bring it "to the front", the field where I enter my Master Password contains a small white area off to the far right edge. This white area disappears in a couple seconds, so I have not been able to capture a screen snapshot yet. But here is a mockup of what it looks like:

I hope this is a graphics glitch with 1Password, and not some malware.
I am running OSX 10.6.7 and 1Password Version 3.6.1 (build 31057) but I noticed this also on one of the recent beta versions.
Thanks,
Jim

That is detecting your caps lock key and is probably just a graphics redraw problem. When you have your caps lock key on, it shows an arrow pointing up in that area.

Thanks Smudge, but I almost never use Caps Lock.
So I just tried it with Caps Lock on, and what I've seen previously is definitely NOT the same thing. The symbol that 1Password uses for Caps Lock is in the same area, but very much different than what I'm seeing.
Also, the Caps Lock symbol doesn't disappear after a couple seconds.
Something else is going on.

but is it in the same area and about the same size? When I enable/disable my caps lock key, the image is instant on/off. Since you said that the caps lock symbol takes a few seconds to show, perhaps the same thing is happening when you switch but it is deciding to show the image or not and you are just seeing the image holder. For some reason this part of the program is running very slow on your system.Flag 0 -
Smudge is exactly correct. Try checking the box to "Disable Animations" (Preferences > Advanced) and let me know if the problem clears up. It is just a redraw problem. Nothing nefarious. Although, you could probably be famous if you discovered Mac malware. There is only one out in the wild that I am aware of, but Apple has already released a fix to remove and prevent it in 10.6.8. Unrelated to this graphics issue, you should think about updating your OS. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />Flag 0

No, Smudge is not exactly correct - he misunderstands my earlier statement. I did not say the caps lock symbol takes a few seconds to show! What I said is that the caps lock symbol doesn't disappear after a couple seconds - but the white thing I see DOES disappear. Clicking Caps Lock on and off produces entirely different behavior on my system.
I have found no way to cause this to repeat. It "just happens" on occasion. But the Caps Lock symbol I can toggle on and off at will, and the change is nearly instant.
Khad, since I cannot cause this to repeat "at will", there is no good way to tell if "Disable Animations" is a fix. I can set that preference, but it could be days before it repeats - if ever.
As I said in my initial post, malware is extremely unlikely, and this is probably a simple graphics glitch in 1Password.Flag 0 -
I have seen this before, but I was unable to find a record of it in the forums or our internal tracker, but I know this is not the first time the exact issue has come up. I'll continue to try to dig up the information from last time I saw it. I just wanted to make sure you knew that this has happened before and that we saw your post.Flag 0

Thanks, Khad. I've set the preference per your suggestion and will let you know if this appears again.
Meantime, if there is any other troubleshooting information you'd like, please feel free to ask.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
Hey Jim,
On behalf of Khad, you are very welcome!
I hope all goes well, but if you experience any glitches, please report back.
Thanks for your willingness to help with any troubleshooting issues. User experiences are one our best sources of information!
Hope you're having a great weekend.
Cheers!

Okay, now my Caps Lock indicator has disappeared and I can't get it back. You cursed me! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

For reference, this is what it should look like:

I found the old thread about this (and related issue in our internal tracker as well). I think it is not exactly the same issue since there are no circumstances under which I can make it appear correctly now, but I have passed this along to the developers for resolution in a future version.
It appears to be unrelated to the "Disable Animations" option, so feel free to adjust that to your tastes.
Thanks for catching this!Flag 0
