Go & Fill Login pop-up not focused in Firefox 5 on Snow Leopard
Hi,
1Password 3.6.0, Firefox 5, OS X 10.6.8. All up to date.
I've noticed that since upgrading to 1P 3.6 and FF5 that sometimes after bringing up the "Go & Fill Login" pop-up by pressing Cmd-Alt-\ the text field doesn't always get focus.
I normally hit Cmd-Alt-\ and then start typing the name of the site I want to go to and hit return when it is found. This always worked without fail on the previous 1P & Firefox combination. Now, sometimes my typing gets caught by the browser and ends up in the address box or for searching the current page. It is not all the time and I have yet to figure out if there is a particular set of circumstances under which it does/doesn't happen.
Anyone else seen this behaviour?
Rich.

I've been seeing the exact same problem since upgrading to FF5. Same versions (3.6.0, OSX 10.6.8). Unfortunately, I've also been unable to nail down a solid reproduction case. Most of the times I've seen it have been when a gmail tab is focused, but that is probably a red herring.
The only thing I've managed to do while trying to reproduce this is crash FF when dismissing the show logins window, but, looking at the stacktrace, it looks like that may just be a bug in FF (I can supply the crash report ID if desired).Flag 0 -
Thank you Matthew, I'm sort of relieved it's not just me <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
At the time of my first post I hadn't realised that I wasn't running the latest version of 1P. I updated shortly afterwards and have seen the same problem re-occur.
So far my attempts to find a way of reproducing the issue have failed.Flag 0 -
Welcome to the forums, Matthew!
Could you try updating to the latest version of 1Password (3.6.1 at the time of this writing) and let me know if the issue persists?
Thanks!
I upgraded yesterday, restarted FF, and unfortunately, the issue just re-occurred. I had opened a new tab, and did a Show Logins (via keyboard shortcut). The panel popped-up, but input focus was still in the FF location bar. I then switched tabs to the tab containing this thread, and the browser crashed.
I do have other add-ons loaded; I'm going to try disabling as many of them as I can live without temporarily, and see what happens:

Evernote Web Clipper 4.0.0.155231
Firebug 1.7.3
Flashblock 1.5.14.2
Form History Control 1.2.9.2
Google Toolbar 7.1.20110512M
Greasemonkey 0.9.6
Javascript Debugger 0.9.88.2
Live HTTP headers 0.17
Open in Browser 1.10
Permit Cookies 0.6.2
Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.6
Could you try simply disabling all other extensions and see if the problem recurs? So far you two are the only users reporting this, but I would love to track down the problem and resolve it if there is something that needs to be fixed in 1Password.
Thanks!
Yeah, I've disabled all my extensions except for Tab Mix Plus and Permit Cookies. If the problem doesn't re-occur in a couple days, I'll start re-enabling them one by one, starting with the Google toolbar, since my gut feeling says that's the most likely candidate, given that it modifies the location bar area, and might cause input focus change behavior.Flag 0 -
Hey Matthew,
Thanks for working diligently to determine the cause.
We look forward to hearing your results!
Cheers!

A bit more information -
I've not yet reproduced the focus issue, but I /have/ figured out how to reliably crash Firefox, with ALL extensions and plugins disabled, except for 1Password:
* Show Logins (keyboard shortcut, I use Cmd-Opt-])
Then, the following in rapid succession:
* Hit any letter to start a search
* Hit delete
* Hit escape to dismiss the Show Logins pop-up.
This crashes the browser every time for me. My guess is that dismissing the pop-up while it is still animating causes the crash.
If it will help, the browser crash report for this can be seen at: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c7bbe805-e9ef-4ca9-9ea4-9a8ad2110708
[UPDATE]
Out of curiosity, I tried the same recipe in Safari, and it reliably crashes Safari as well.Flag 0 -
Wow, Matthew!
You must be a really fast typer! I have never run into this before, and I had to really step up my game to get it to crash. With your clear method, I was able to get both Firefox 5 and Safari 5.0.5 to crash. I will be reporting this to the team. Thanks again for sharing that! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Unfortunately, I am not able to reproduce the focus bug. Maybe I need to be faster to get that to happen, too.

Looking at Matthew's list of extensions the only one we have in common is Tab Mix Plus.
One thing that doesn't help this situation is the change in colour of the highlight in the Go & Fill Login pop-up. Before it was a brighter blue wasn't it. Now that it is a grey colour it is not as clear whether it is focussed or not.Flag 0 -
The default focus color in Mac OS X is blue, but you can change this in System Preferences.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you can reproduce the focus issue. Does the problem persist if you disable Tab Mix Plus?Flag 0 -

That is the way my Mac has always been set (see pic) and I'm sure the pop-up was more blue. The pic also shows the pop-up with the "Agile Web Solutions..." line selected.

That was plan once I'd got a convenient moment to do it. I've just disabled it, restarted Firefox and the first thing I did was use 1P to login to this site and the pop-up was not focussed as per my original report.Flag 0 -

One thing that struck me about your screenshot is that the selected Login item is grey. "Duh," you say, but on my system, the selection is blue regardless of whether or not the Go & Fill window has focus (which you can determine by the lighter grey title bar when focused, compared to the darker bar otherwise).
Focused:

And unfocused:

As I mentioned above, when Firefox itself loses focus, the selection doesn't turn grey; the window itself is dismissed. When focused, the search field has a cursor, and the title bar of the window is highlighted -- as opposed to being the same colour as the rest of the window.
If the Go & Fill window does not have focus, how are you entering text into the search field? It seems to me that it does have focus but somehow the text input is being "redirected" somehow. I suspect that something else entirely -- separate from Firefox and 1Password -- may be stealing the spotlight here, so to speak. Maybe it would be worthwhile to try temporarily disabling background apps or login items.
We will get to the bottom of this. Thanks so much for your patience. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
I'm still trying to whittle down the set of extensions that might cause the focus
issue.
I had reduced down to just 1Password for a few days, and hadn't seen it
(usual caveat for absence of a result). I added back TabMixPlus, Google toolbar,
and Permit Cookes, same. I added back Flash and Flashblock, and, this morning,
hit the problem. So I know it can happen with the following:
* Flash 10.1.102.64
* Flashblock 1.5.15.1
* Google toolbar 7.1.20110512M
* Permit Cookies 0.6.2
* Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.6
I'm going to try to reduce that further, but given the intermittentness,
it may take a while.Flag 0 -
Not to discourage you from investigating this further, but we will be rolling out a brand new Firefox extension in the not-too-distant future which eliminates this issue completely. I just thought I should mention that before you pull out all your hair trying to narrow it down. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
If you are patient, we do have a "fix" in the works. There will be plenty of other things to report with the new extension, though, so we could still make use of your willingness to help at that point even if you would rather just relax about this particular issue for now.
For what it's worth.
Cheers,Flag 0 -
Ah, good. I just had it occur with only Permit Cookies and TMP, so I was
running out of possible extension interactions. Guess I can re-enable
the others and just wait for the new extension version.Flag 0
