Keyboard shortcut not working in Firefox 5

Hi

I just updated to Firefox 4 and I am also experiencing problems with the 1Password shortcuts. However, it is only the "Show Logins" shortcut that doesn't work; the "Login with 1Password" does.

A peculiar thing is that if I have marked some menu (e.g. by using CTRL-F2) and apply my shortcut for "Show Logins" it works fine.

My shortcuts for for "Login with 1Password" and "Show Logins" are the same I used in Firefox 3, which is CMD-' and ALT-CMD-', respectively.

Do you know how to fix this?

I am using OS X 10.6.8, Firefox 4.0.1 and 1Password 3.6.1. I can attach images of my preferences if necessary.

Thanks,

Robert

    Welcome to the forums, Robert!

I'm sorry that you are having this trouble, and I can certainly work with you to resolve the issue in Firefox 4 if necessary. However, before we proceed, could I ask you to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox (5.0 as of this writing)? Mozilla is no longer supporting Firefox 4.

Please let me know if you are still having the trouble in Firefox 5 or if you cannot install Firefox 5 for some reason.

    Thanks!
  • Hi khad

Thanks for your reply! (and for the suggestion about getting the latest version of Firefox <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />)

I have upgraded to Firefox 5.0 and I still have the same issue.

    Best,

    Robert

    Hey Robert,

I split your post from the Firefox 4 thread now that you have upgraded to Firefox 5.

My guess is that there is a conflicting shortcut on your system. Does the problem persist if you change the keyboard shortcuts to the default ⌘\ and ⌥⌘\ ones?

It sounds like you already know how to do this, but you can change the shortcuts using 1Password's preferences on the Logins pane.

Please also disable the keyboard shortcut for "Turn image smoothing on or off" in System Preferences.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!
  • Hi khad

I am afraid I can not use the standard shortcut - I have a Danish keyboard, so in order to get a backslash I have to use SHIFT-ALT-7 . Hence the shortcut ALT-CMD-\ is interpreted SHITF-ALT-CMD-7 on my system. I have tried making other shortcuts, but it does not solve the problem.

The shortcut ALT-CMD-' works fine in Safari (version 5.0.5).

Generally, when I apply a shortcut (self defined or system defined) the menu with the option I want to use blinks once. This is also the case when I try calling "Login with 1Password" - which causes me to believe that the shortcut is registered, but for some reason not applied.

    Best,

    Robert

My apologies. I should have assumed you were using a non-English keyboard since you had set a custom keyboard shortcut.

Interesting. I know what you mean, and it does sound like something odd is happening.

Does it work if you select "Show Logins" from the menu with your mouse?

No problem <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' /> I am using the English version of Firefox; I don't know if this causes any problems - I have never experienced any before!

Both 1Password entries in the "View" menu works when invoked by the mouse.
  • Hey there, Robert!

    I am sorry you are still having this problem. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Could you please send us a Diagnostics Report? You can generate one in 1Password on your Mac by going to Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report... Just attach this to the email when you reply, and be sure to include a link to this thread for context and any other details you can as it will help us understand the problem better.

We will get to the bottom of this. I look forward to hearing from you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

  • Hi brenty

Sure - I'll send an email right away.

I have discovered something else with shortcuts that me be useful in this context: I have made my own shortcut for "Restore Previous Session" in Firefox which has the same behavior as "Show Logins"; the menu blinks once, but nothing happens. Perhaps Firefox is having problems with external shortcuts?

    Thanks,

    Robert

    It is very possibly a Firefox bug... <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

Just to be clear, have you defined custom shortcuts in System Preferences in addition to the ones defined in 1Password's preferences? If so, please try removing them and let me know if that helps. Maybe having the shortcut defined by 1Password and System Preferences causes an error. It doesn't on my system, but it's worth a shot...

(Maybe you can tell I am grasping at straws now.)
