1Password Lock sound occuring after inactivity
Hello,
I've finally narrowed it down to 1Password. For a while I've been hearing a weird clicking sound that is similar to the unlock sound of 1Password. It occurs after inactivity on my MacPro, Usually after 5-10 minutes or so, and goes away after I wiggle the mouse etc. The clicking occurs in varying patterns. Sometimes 5 seconds, 20 seconds, 5 seconds, 20 seconds. Other patterns occur.
Well today I finally found the source of the noise. It is the exact sound played when I click on the 'lock' button of the 1 Password dashboard. I've never pressed that before, but it's the same noise.
Has anyone else experienced this?
And please agile, are you aware of it and a solution to the problem.
This sound occurs even when there is nothing open other than the finder.

Welcome to the forums, Doguz. There was an issue like this in an older version of 1Password. We are not aware of this occurring in the latest version, though. What version of 1Password are you using? Try updating to the latest version.
Also, your description give me the impression that the sound occurs repeatedly. This is not expected behavior. However, 1Password does make a locking sound when it locks even if 1Password.app is not opened at the time. The sound comes from the 1PasswordAgent background process.
Please let me know if you can provide further details. If there is a problem in the latest version, I would love to get it resolved.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
What version of Mac OS X are you using? If you are using 10.5, you will need to download 1Password 3.5. Otherwise, 3.6.1 is exactly the one you want. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
Let me know how it goes.Flag 0 -
Hi, this is still happening for me, even after upgrading to: Version 3.6.1 (build 31057)
I can reproduce it like so:

Launch and unlock 1Password

Quit 1Password without locking

Invoke screensaver (I'm able to do this on demand with my app launcher Alfred)
It also happens if the screensaver starts up on its own, of course.Flag 0 -

Hey there, shanebonham!
I am sorry for the confusion. It sounds like you have this option checking in your preferences:

1Password plays the lock sound as feedback when it Auto-Locks itself, based on how you have things set in 1Password > Preferences > Security. The reason it works this way is that 1PasswordAgent runs in the background to do the locking and unlocking so that you can use 1Password in your web browser even if the main 1Password application is not running.
I hope this helps. Please let me know. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

Any time!
Some of those security preferences are pretty cryptic (for good reason, unfortunately, given the way they function), but we hope to make things a bit more clear in the future. For now, if you have any other questions at all, just ask. We are always here to help! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

Just curious: The OP said, "The clicking occurs in varying patterns. Sometimes 5 seconds, 20 seconds, 5 seconds, 20 seconds. Other patterns occur."
I understand what caused the first clicking (locking) sound. What about these others?

The OP also followed up to confirm that the issue has been resolved in the latest version of 1Password. There was a bug in an earlier version that played the sound repeatedly like that, but it has since been fixed.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Cheers!Flag 0 -

Yes, I saw that he said the issue was resolved, but I didn't see any mention of the repeated sound, so I wondered what had caused it.
Thank you for your explanation.

I was having this same problem -- on 3 different macs! I even took my MacBook Pro to an apple-store genius, because I thought it was related to my hard drive! The sound coincided with the darkening of my screen (which I now understand was 1P locking with my screen saver). They even replaced my hard drive for good measure, and when I got home, my time machine backups were overwritten. All because of this 1P sound!
I'm currently working in a room that has 3 Macs -- each running 1P. And we're all tired of hearing that sound. But we don't want to change our settings!
I *want* 1P to lock when the screen saver engages -- I just don't want to hear the sound!!! Can you please give us a way to keep the functionality without having to hear that sound?Flag 0 -
Wow! I'm sorry for the trouble.
I will add a setting to allow the sound to be disabled.
On the bright side you got a new hard disk, so you may want to turn this on a few times a year before going to see Apple <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -

Oh yes, please!
I almost grabbed my new Macbook Pro to the next store for the same reason, but tried putting in some speakers first. So it has to be a software issue. And after a deinstall of 1password everything was fine and QUIET!Flag 0 -

"1Password - The way to get a free hard drive out of Apple because it's making noises" - I think we could run with that one.
Anyway, as Dave said we'll add an option for this, though we just need a bit of time to finish up the work in Safari first. I think the reason we put this sound in place is really to alert users to the fact that 1Password locking for them, but in retrospect I can see why it would be frustrating.Flag 0 -
