How do I reset the Master Password?

<div class="IPBDescription">How do I reset the Master Password on 1Password on the iPhone?</div>Simple question, can't find it, every time I go to the 1Password App icon on my Iphone, it asks for the unlock code and when it unlocks the app disappears and that's it. Ocassionally when I go somewehere in Safari 1Password asks for the Master Password, and since I've chosen a rather complicated password during installation, I'd like to reset it to something shorter. Am I missing something?

Hey LeonK, welcome to the forums. I'm sorry that you're having this problem.

Your master password is used to encrypt all your confidential information for each item that has the master password (high security) enabled; without the master password, the data in these items cannot be recovered. Your 1Password unlock code and master password are known only to you, and we cannot reset them for you; if we could, that would be a security hole that criminals could use to steal your data.

If you cannot remember the master password, you will need to reset your master password. To do this, open 1Password and navigate to Settings > Security > Reset Master Password (if you don't see Settings, tap More). Please note that this will delete all your items, including those that were protected by just the unlock code.

If you cannot remember the unlock code, you will need to delete the 1Password app from your device and start over. Whether you reset the database or uninstall 1Password from your device and start over, there are a few ways to retrieve your data after the reset or reinstall:

    * If you've been using Dropbox to sync your data with 1Password for Mac or Windows, just set up Dropbox syncing again in the reinstalled app, and your data will start syncing to your iPad automatically. Please see this guide for instructions on how to set this up if you need any assistance:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html

    * If you've previously synced your 1Password data with 1Password for Mac, you can easily restore your data during the next Wi-Fi sync:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/sync_to_mac_manually.html

    * If you've used the built-in "backup and restore" feature to save a backup copy of your 1Password data, you can use it again to restore that saved backup file. You can read more about our backup and restore option here:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/backup.html

Please note that you don't have to repurchase 1Password in order to reinstall the app, providing you're still using the same iTunes account that you used to purchase the app originally, then you will be able to download the current version for free. Unfortunately, it won't look like it's free until you choose to "buy" it and enter your password. You don't have to take our word for it, though. Here is Apple's official support document:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519

Another thing you can do to make sure that you won't have to pay for the app again is to try adding it to your Wish List in iTunes. If you already own the app, iTunes will tell you that you have already purchased the item and that you cannot add it to your Wish List.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

We are always here to help!
