Fluid support in Lion

I updated 1P last week and today find it doesn't work with the old Fluid (0.9 etc), has the update broken Fluid functionality?

Try updating to the latest version of Fluid (1.2). Also, Fluid and other WebKit-based browsers are not supported in OS X Lion (if that applies to your situation) since Apple has removed Scripting Additions in Lion.

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Cheers!
  • Wait… 1Password won't work with Fluid browsers in Lion?

Hey there, TJLuoma! Welcome to the forums!

This is correct, unfortunately. We are using scripting additions right now on Snow Leopard, but this option is not available to us on Lion.

    Well… shite.

Is there another option in Lion or are Fluid users just SOL?

(If there isn't, that's fine, I'd just rather know so I can plan to adjust my workflow accordingly. My first step so far has been to bookmark my "1password anywhere" HTML file in my Fluid browsers, since I mostly only need to read-from it, not write-to it.)

I second that question, please let us know if we could expect any workaround for that issue.

As far I am aware, Fluid has its own plugin architecture and maybe its author would be willing to cooperate with you guys to bring that missing functionality back?
  • Welcome to the forum, guys! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

This is something we are currently exploring, since so many of our customers and most of us here at AgileBits love Fluid. The extension API is a good possibility. Hopefully we can get this working on Lion in the future. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

In the mean time, as TJLuoma pointed out, 1PasswordAnywhere is handy in a pinch. But believe me we realize it is no substitute. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
  • 1. I want to +1 the most rapid support for Fluid in Lion as possible!

    2. Your help article is out of date — it should mention the current lack of support for Fluid in OS X. http://help.agile.ws/1Password3/missing_browser_icon.html#netnewswire_and_fluid
  • Thanks for the heads up, I'll get that guide updated to mention the lack of Fluid support under Lion.

We can't promise any timeframes for Fluid support in Lion, but we're huge fans of Fluid here so it's certainly on our list.

Add me to the list of interested customers and yeah, reach out to Todd Ditchendorf (@iTod). He's probably a 1Password user too!

Is there still no solution for Fluid SSBs? Will remove majority of 1P's appeal... and there is still no "Lion" update on the aforementioned help article.

Welcome to the forums, SciPhi. Unfortunately, Fluid support is not available at this time. It sounds like you have a very interesting use case if that is "most of" 1Password's appeal, though. Do you never use Safari, Firefox, or Chrome or store wallet items, secure notes, of software licenses in 1Password? I'm curious about this as it sounds like an interesting way to use 1Password. I alway like knowing about uncommon ways in which 1Password is being used.

One thing I don't see mentioned above is that by default Fluid shares its cookies with Safari, so if you use the 1Password Safari extension to log into the site(s) for which you have created an SSB, you will be logged in in the SSB. It's not the same, I know, but if you didn't already know perhaps it will ease the pain.

Unfortunately, Apple removed Scripting Additions from developer builds of Lion and only brought them back only at the last minute. This is likely a sign that Apple plans to phase this technology out, and soon, but is giving developers a little more time to make the transition. Because we're trying to standardize our extension experience across browsers and prepare for the future, we have already taken Apple's progressive philosophy to heart and are looking towards the future to create a better experience for all customers.

At the moment we don't have any immediate plans to support Fluid, as it does not provide the same extensions framework available in Safari. For now we're focusing our efforts on browsers with a rich set of tools for extensions; currently this includes Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. But all of us at AgileBits love and use Fluid, so anything is possible in the future. This was not a change we were excited to roll out.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
  • I use several internal web apps for my everyday work, as dedicated Fluid SSBs, so that's 3-5 open at any given time. Combined with Choosy, links in emails (or between apps) never go through Safari (or Chrome/FF) - this leaves the web browser free for... browsing. Most importantly it gives me command-tab access to my most important apps, and was a very effective work style when 1P worked in Fluid. Without this support, no longer being a keystroke away from login, I might as well return to using the venerable SplashID, because 1P is also reduced to a simple lookup tool.

We're certainly sorry to see you go if you decide to do so. There isn't currently a way for us to integrate with Fluid in Lion, though. Thanks for using 1Password thus far, and if you ever decide to return, we will certainly welcome you back with open arms.

Best wishes to you this and every season,
