1P button position on Safari toolbar always resets

igal27
igal27 Junior Member
I've been using 1P for a long time, mainly with Safari (I'm currently using Safari 5.0.5 on OSX 10.6.8). I've always had the 1P button positioned just to the left of the URL field, and never had any problems with it. Just a few days ago, it started repositioning all the way to the left of the toolbar (just to the right of the previous/next button) every time I quit and restart Safari. This is very annoying, since I now usually end up clicking the home button by mistake when I want to log into a site (since the home button is now the right-most button to the left of the URL field)... Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem? Thanks.

    Thanks for asking about this!

This is actually fixed in Safari 5.1, but I don't have a time frame for a release since we are waiting on Apple on this one. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I've got a similar problem, with Safari 5.0.5 and 1Password 3.6.1, except in my case the 1Password button sometimes shows up

on the extreme right, after the search box, instead of on the left where I put it. This seems to happen about half the

time on restarting Safari, so for now I'm just restarting until the button is correct. Very strange, and somewhat irritating.

This happens a lot with certain other extensions installed, most "notably" Evernote (har har). Could you tell us what other extensions you're running in Safari?

    Also, Safari 5.1 is now available from Software Update! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    After Updating Safari to 5.1 6524.5 - and 1P to Version 3.6.1 (build 31057) (3.6.5 - Beta-23)

I had the 1P button - but upon relaunching Safari the button went away.

I reinstalled it again from inside the 1P program. No clue if it will go away again when I quit Safari.

(I like the new UI BTW - a little gigantic, but nice to get a full pop up list of choices instead of having to go to a disclosure triangle.)

Thanks for the kind words, Kengel! We are still working to make it even better, but I am glad that you like the new Safari 5.1 extension. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Please take a look at our Safari 5.1 troubleshooting guide and let me know if you need further assistance. It sounds like you just need to install the extension which is the first section the in the troubleshooting guide. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

If it keeps disappearing, try resetting folder permissions in 1Password (Help > Troubleshooting > Reset Folder Permissions).

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

Well, I've got Safari 5.1 installed (under Snow Leopard), with the latest version of the 1P extension, and I'm still getting this behavior of the 1P button moving from where I put it, from time to time... The only other extension I have installed is Tab Duplicator.

If this is happening, please file a bug with Apple. We are using the standard extension APIs now.

That said, I can't reproduce this on my own machine. Perhaps you are using some non-standard extensions which are modifying your toolbar — applications that modify Safari but are not listed in Safari's extensions preference pane for example.

If there is anything we can do, I would love to help, but offhand I don't think we have any control over toolbar button placement in Safari 5.1 <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

Please let me know if there are steps I can take to reproduce the issue here.

    Thanks!

This is happening to me too, but only after the 1Password extension is updated (I have auto updates enabled).

Thanks for that additional information. We will keep an eye on it, but as I said, this would be a Safari bug since the new Safari 5.1 extension button placement is completely out of our control now (as opposed to the previous Safari 5.0 extension).

Just for reference, what version of OS X, 1Password, and the extension are you using?

I see that this is happening to me also after 1P updates. I'm using the latest versions of everything (Safari 5.1 (6534.50), 1P 3.7.1.BETA-2 (build 31087), and 1P extension 3.7.b7), and as I mentioned before, the only other extension I have installed is Tab Duplicator.

I thought you said that this problem had been fixed in Safari 5.1? I had not had any problems with this until very recently (when I posted my original post above), and now I can't get the button to stay in place. I DON'T have the same problem with the button from the other extension I have installed (Tab Duplicator) -- it always stays in place. Are you really telling me that the only thing I can do is to submit a bug report about this to Apple?! What's the turnaround time on fixes from Apple? This is very annoying. I went from having a fully functional product, which didn't cause any problems, to one which is very difficult for me to use (without the ability to "Go & Fill" by selecting from the folder hierarchy I have saved -- I've posted about this in another thread), and where the button keeps moving around. I was EXTREMELY happy with 1P before, but now I must say I'm rather disappointed. I understand that this is at least in part due to changes Apple has made to Safari, but nonetheless, that knowledge doesn't help me with my day-to-day use of 1P...

I hope you can manage to address most of these problems; I'll stick it out for now and see how the usability of the "new and improved" 1P progresses with the updates...

I feel your pain. We are working as hard as we can to resolve all issues, and this is one we have not seen here in the labs. We take every issue seriously, but it can be hard to come up with a solution for something we are not able to reproduce. I wonder if this is a Snow Leopard issue. We will focus our testing in that area unless we hear from Lion users who are also seeing this. If there is an issue in Safari, there really isn't anything we can do about it except wait for Apple to release a fix. That said, it is too early to say for certain where the "blame" lies. We just want to get it resolved as much as you do.

OK, I've done all these things repeatedly and it keeps disappearing!

    Version 3.6.5 (build 31075), Safari Version 5.1 (6534.50)

Ironically today after reinstalling it again - it wouldn't fill the Agile form - (though in retrospect I think I've run into this before with the install - possibly refreshing the page and then trying to fill might have worked.)

Regardless, if I restart the 1P will be gone.

I'm on Safari 5.1 (Lion), 1Password 3.7.1, extension v3.7.b9. As I type this now, I notice that the 1Password icon in Safari is once again at the end of my toolbar and not before the location bar, which is where I normally have it...

Have you tried disabling all other Safari extensions besides 1Password? Are you running any other software which places a button the in the Safari toolbar or otherwise modifies Safari that is not an actual Safari extension (i.e. it is in Safari but not listed in Safari > Preferences > Extensions)?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks!
