Lion, Dropbox, encryption key problems
<div class="IPBDescription">After upgrading, my encryption keys file seems to have vanishes</div>I installed Lion early today and can now no longer log into one password. When I enter the master password, I get this message:
Exception: The encryption keys file does not exist at 'file://localhost/Users/USERNAME/Desktop/1password%20copy.agilekeychain/data/default/1password.keys'
I store my password on Dropbox. I did not change that file. I am running the most recent version of 1Password (3.6.1). I can't open 1password on my laptops that normally sync with the file either, I can still open 1password and access logins from my iPhone.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might regain the ability to use one password here?
Thanks very much!
John
P.S. Another wrinkle: I can no longer find the library folder where backups are supposed to be stored. I supposed I could launch time machine and go back to find a back up, but I hesitate to do that. What would it mean to restore a file to a folder structure that no longer exists?

Re : the Library folder Its hidden by default in Lion
With a finder window open (with finder in menubar) click GO... then press the option key you will see Library appear just below HOME. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
As to the encryption key I am not the one to give any advice on this. I leave that to one of the other brain's running around here <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />Flag 0 -

Thanks very much for that helpful advice. Here's hoping someone else can help me do more than recover a backup (though recovering a back up would be a good first step!)

That is probably the best course of action (and simplest solution, rather than hunting down that file specifically). In 1Password, go to File > Restore Data File from Backup... and restore from a recent one. Tommy is correct about this being hidden, but if your backups are there and intact this should not affect 1Password's ability to restore from one.
Please let me know how it turns out. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
Thanks so much for the recommendation. Your advice worked perfectly. I went to restore from backups; a dialogue box appeared listing all of them. I selected the most recent, hit restore; 1Password launched; I entered my password; et voila. It worked!
I then moved the file to dropbox using the option built into the preferences dialogue box. All seems well.
Thanks so much for your help with this!

So even though you solved this with a backup, here's my solution for those who haven't a backup, or would rather not use one:
0. Make sure 1Password quit.
1. Drag the keychain from Dropbox to your Desktop.
2. double click. have 1Password use that file.
3. Verify it works; move keychain back to Dropbox.
4. Wipe the sweat off your face.Flag 0 -
Thanks for the update, jbbuntin! I am glad you got it working. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
And thanks so much for the tip, DoronDD! Sometimes things get a little mixed up during an OS upgrade, but Apple is generally careful to make sure that nothing actually goes missing.
In all cases I have seen like this, the data is there. You just have to help 1Password find it first. Often a quick Spotlight search for "1Password.agilekeychain" will reveal its location! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
