No Folder Display in Safari 5.1 extension

<div class="IPBDescription">May be added in a future version</div>Not sure if this has been raised already, but I have just upgraded to Lion today and reset my extensions on Safari, Firefox etc, however I now notice when I load 1Password I can not view the saved passwords by 'Folder'? I had all my password ids sorted by folders, and credit cards under Credit Cards, banks etc etc. Is there no way to restore this layout under 1Password? Cant easily find things the way they are listed at present? Sorry if this was already asked or mentioned, but maybe its possible and I am missing the settings? <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

I have also dropped the above comment on the Lion Extensions thread as well, in case its a feature that needs adding or updating.

Thanks for bringing this up. I responded there, but I just want to reply here as well in case it helps someone else. This is something we will definitely consider adding in the future, although I can't say for certain if/when we may implement Folders in the new Safari 5.1 extension.

Thanks again for letting us know you want this feature! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm posting here to put my vote in for reimplementation of folders. I have a LOT of saved sites, and folder organization makes the search much easier for me. Please bring folders back. The product feels broken to me without it. Thank you for your consideration.

Thanks for letting us know you would use folders in the new extension. Everyone's vote counts! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I couldn't agree more with the need to re-implement Folders in Safari 5.1 extension. I use Folders to replace my bookmarks as another level of security (you couldn't see my bank bookmarks/items without unlocking 1Password). Now, I must search for the correct URL or item name (with keystrokes, no less, instead of mouse clicks). Without reimplementing Folders in Safari 5.1, I'm stuck with having to use Firefox or re-bookmark all my secure sites.

So, please do what you can to re-implement Folders. I feel I have lost a big piece of 1Password functionality.

    Thanks!

We are working hard to improve the new Safari extension. Thanks for your feedback on this topic! It helps us keep everything in perspective as we work.
  • Want to get my vote in as well. 1password does now feel broken or stepping back in the past with no folders. Writing this in firefox as I can find my logins easier. Also, if can't do folders what about tags? Don't see a way to get that group either. I have folders group by phone, email, stores, electronics, memberships, credit cards, banks, etc... now it is all gone. I don't remember each name as that is what 1password is all about. Open it - go to my folder - see it and launch it. No need to type anything or remember anything but the main folder topic. Have bought product for both mac and pc and love it. Had just moved to safari and was getting used to it well for now back to firefox. Again, great product and I know it is hard with updates. Keep up the good work.
  • The GUI needs to halt development and go back to simple. All these little icons and thick wall IOS elements needs to stop.

We do not care about the UI being pretty. we want function back. Click the IP icon and it drops down like the past version.

You can do it. Chrome is terrible and the majority of users want the contextual drop down feature back.

That's really all I can say except that the popup box thing is terrible and needs to totally be redone outside the box by thinking,

how can we make it the same as before. Why can't we move this popup box outside the browser and just leave it there if we must have this thing in our life?

    Think about it.

BTW, I must say your customer service is top notch for not going off on all the complaining users like myself. You all must write up some really nasty replies and hit cancel not submit

all day long. Whoever trains your customer support needs a raise. I would absolutely explode on people like myself who constantly complain about the same thing daily.

Have I mentioned yet, we all hate the new popup window crap? Whoever made that thing, their head must be about to explode.

We are working to restore folders to the Safari 5.1 extension, but I do want to point out that this transition was not just a random act of whimsy. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Apple removed the technology we relied on for the past five years to integrate the with WebKit-based browsers like Safari. We had to scrap five years of code, but starting from scratch also has its advantages. Updates to the new extension will be much easier to deploy because they do not require updating the main application. Hopefully this can be seen from the frequency of updates in the week since Lion was released. It won't be long before the new extension surpasses the old in all areas. (It already has in quite a few.)

While we can no longer offer the Cocoa-based menu interface which used the technology that has been removed, we are constantly listening to feedback from users like yourselves to bring back previous features, add new ones, and improve the interface. For more information, including screen shots of a new extension interface we are working on, please take a look at the blog posts to which Dave linked above. A sample:

  • Does anyone know if Data Vault supports folders in Safari? This is a show stopper for me. What a DOWNGRADE!

    Welcome to the forums, jakubson!

I'm sorry to hear that not having folders visible in the Safari extension is an issue for you. As Khad mentioned here just a few days ago, we do have plans to include it in the interface again. You can always use the 1Password application to examine your items by folder (sorting and searching as you desire) and then use the Go & Fill action to launch your default browser on that web site with your credentials filled. While that's not as convenient as what you're accustomed to, it does work well as a workaround until folders once again grace the extension.

Since you were so nice to respond, I thought I would give you a little background behind my admittedly less than friendly comment.

I teach Quicken and QuickBooks software for a living. I have recommended 1Password to many of my Mac clients. I help them install it, and organize their passwords into Folders for ease of use. For my more sophisticated clients, I usually recommend Firefox. This goes back to the days (2007) when some bank websites (Chase comes to mind) would not download banking transactions under Safari.

However, many of my clients are less sophisticated, and the Mac is their first computer. The ONLY non-Apple software they have on their computer is Quicken and (at my behest) 1Password. They don't even know what a browser is - they consider Safari to be "the Internet." These clients are very unhappy with me at the moment. Unless there is a resolution soon, I may be forced to change these clients to something like Data Vault. This will be at my own expense, since I have a 100% satisfaction guaranteed policy with my services and recommendations.

So you see, your feature downgrade has the potential to cost me hundreds of dollars. Hence my aggrieved response.

I certainly understand your frustration, jakubson. There are a number of features that Apple has changed in Lion that make the support we do a bit of a challenge as we adjust to new ways of doing things. It can really be a pain sometimes.

We are working as hard as we can to restore all the previous features and even introduce some new ones. I wish I had a time frame for a specific release, but I can only say that we have been releasing updates almost every single day since Lion was released.

Have you taken a look at the search feature for the All Logins section in the new extension? Simply click the 1P toolbar button, then click the second icon on the left to view the "All Logins" section. Optionally type a few characters of the Login to narrow it down, and then click the Login to Go & Fill it. More novice users you interact with may not take advantage of the keyboard as much (or at all), but a power user like yourself may find the Option-Command-\ shortcut helpful. That will open the extension directly to the "All Logins" section so you can just begin typing and then press Return.

Folders are also still supported via 1Password's Dock icon if they are absolutely essential to your workflow.
