1Password won't work when relaunching from Private Browsing

1Password window doesn't register to enter keystrokes after I've typed my master password (OS X Lion/Safari 5.1). Hence, I cannot get to my logins in Safari, I have to log in manually.

    Hey there, Gnoober!

I am sorry you are having this problem. Could you please try uninstalling and reinstalling the extension? It sounds like something got out of sync there. Please follow these steps:

    Remove the 1Password extension

Open Safari
Go to the Safari Menu > Preferences > Extensions
Select the 1Password extension
Click “Uninstall”
Close Safari
Reinstall the Safari extension

Open 1Password
Go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Browsers
Click the “Install Safari Extension” button
When prompted, click “Install”
Please let me know if this helps. I look forward to hearing back from you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  • That fixed both the enter error, and the fill shortcut error. Thanks <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thanks for the update! You are so welcome! I am glad that it is working now! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
  • For the record, this is a recurring issue. Solution, however, are the steps as outlined above:

Uninstall extension

Quit Safari

Launch 1Password and install extension as prompted
• I have read several previous topics on the issues with Safari 5.1, both on Snow Leopard and Lion. I encountered a rather different issue, and I hope anyone who has encountered this issue could discuss this on this forum.

First of all, the developers are taking in our concerns and suggestions kindly, and that shows the professional attitude for keeping users loving their products.

I am using Safari 5.1 and 1Password 3.6.1 on OS X LION. My issue is that when I click on the "1P" button on the Safari menubar a smaller window pops up normally (it's the newly-designed one, with pretty interface, not drop down from menubar) and asks fro master password. The issue is I typed my master password and hit return, nothing happens. It didn't freeze or crash, it just acted as if I pressed nothing at all. I tried restarting my mac and it still didn't work. It may be one of the issues among many others and I hope the developers would find a solution to this soon.

I am a heavy-weight user of 1Password, like many other users, so any and all improvements and suggestions taken on the software would all be appreciated!

From the Safari 5.1 troubleshooting guide:
If you are having trouble unlocking 1Password in Safari 5.1 after having used Private Browsing mode, please try relaunching Safari after disabling Private Browsing. There is an issue we are working to resolve in which the extension will not unlock after relaunching Safari when Private Browsing was enabled when Safari was last quit.
Does this apply to your situation?

    Please let me know. Thanks!
  • I launch Safari using an Apple script that starts Safari in Private browsing mode. So yes, private browsing was enabled when quitting. However, I'll try and launch Safari normally and see if the issue persists.

I too am experiencing this issue between 1Password and Lion. It is intermittent and occurs on all of my computers and also affects my wife. Quitting Safari and restarting seems to fix it but it is quite annoying.

    Thanks for your help.

    @Gnoober

Thanks for updating the thread with the additional information regarding starting Safari in Private Browsing mode. Please let us know if disabling PB mode resolves the issue for you.

    @ michaeleherman

I'm sorry the issue is intermittent, but I'm happy to hear that it does not happen all the time.

Did you read Khad's post above? Is it related to Private Browsing being enabled? Please let me know.

    Cheers!

  • To the best of my knowledge, running Safari in normal mode, does not resolve this specific issue. Every time I restart my computer, I have to uninstall and reinstall the extension to ensure (relatively) proper 1PW functionality within Safari.

Can you tell me what version of 1Password and the Safari extension you are using?

The latest versions are 1Password 3.6.5 and Safari extension 3.6.5.BETA-29.

To help us track down the issue more quickly, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.

We are super busy right now, so we may not be able to reply immediately, but it could be very helpful to have your Diagnostics Report. We will reply as soon as possible.

    Thanks for your help!

    Beta-30 gives me the following:

Disabling or reinstalling the extension does NOT resolve the error. I'm back to manual logging. Disabling private browsing, also, does not resolve the issue. Back to manual login regardless of Safari private browsing or not at this moment.

EDIT: disabling private browsing does resolve the issue. Sorry about that.

This is sad. Have you tried to restart Safari again and then try to unlock?

  • A small update: in Safari private mode, 1PW still does not work (database error when entering master password). However, in Safari normal mode, I have to uninstall the extension and then reinstall every time I restart the machine, in order for 1PW to work. The same is true of private mode: uninstall/reinstall does resolve the issue, until, however, I restart my machine. Further, the latest version of the extension is now labelled Beta-28, which is a mystery to me, as it was Beta-30 yesterday. When I reinstall, I get the 28 version, no matter what. Safari is set to automatically update extensions. After approximately five minutes of running Safari, the extension updates itself to Beta-30. This might not be relevant, but worth noting as point of fact, at least in my case.

Yes, the version of the extension included in the app bundle is older than the latest version. Thank goodness for autoupdate of Safari extensions. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

We are working to resolve the private browsing issue. Thanks for the update!

Even when running Safari in normal mode, as indicated above, I still get the "private browsing error" message when entering the master password. Hence, this issue is not isolated to private browsing alone. It does appear in normal mode too. Glad to hear you're working to resolve this.
  • khad

Sorry if the wording wasn't clear enough, but the issue is actually present when running Safari in "normal mode" but when Safari was last quit with Private Browsing enabled. Steps to reproduce:

Open Safari

Enable Private Browsing

Leave Private Browsing enabled

Quit Safari

Open Safari

Attempt to unlock the 1Password Safari extension will fail
Workaround:

Disable Private Browsing

Quit Safari

Open Safari

1Password Safari extension should work as expected
