1Password Appears to be Broken after Upgrade

Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Safari 5.1 (6534.50)

1Password 3.6.1 (build 31057)

I feel that I am missing something because the new version of 1Password for Safari 5.1 appears to be utterly broken. I wish that I had waited before upgrading.

Issues:

1. No contextual menus appear anywhere. I cannot hold down the Control and have 1Password appear in bottom of menu, as before.

A. In a new site no Password generation menu appears.

B. In a field, no option appears to Fill and Submit.

C. In a blank page or Tab no option appears to go to site, fill and submit.

2. Even though I have 1Password open and unlocked, the Safari extension acts as if I am running 2 versions of the app.

A. Even though I have a large number of pre saved Logins it will ask me if want to create a new one for a site that I have already saved.

B. It does not ask me if I want to amend or update existing.

C. It asks me to enter a Master Password every time, even though I have the application open and unlocked.

3. Despite many Logins saved, 1Password will ignore this and ask to create a new one, if I allow it will create a duplicate. Will not recognize existing.

4. While in the main application, if I click on the URL it will go to the login and on some occasions not fill the fields and all occasions not submit. The lack of filling correctly seems to happen most often in site where I may have more than one account, like Gmail or Twitter.

I had become so dependent on 1Password that my work has now ground to a halt. I do not have time to do a million work arounds. Until it is repaired is there a way to go back, deinstall and reload a previous version?

I may be forced into abandoning 1Password.

Thanks

    Hey there, Garrett! Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am sorry it is not under better circumstances. These are known issues, which we have mentioned elsewhere on the forum as well as on our blog. We hope to address these soon in updates. The good news is that if you have automatic updates for extensions enabled in Safari you won't have to do a thing! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Believe me, we are very much aware of the shortcomings of our new extension, since we use it every day ourselves. Unfortunately we had to scrap 5 years worth of work and start over from scratch to support Safari 5.1 and Lion. We have some work to do, but we're on the case.
  • When do you think you will get a full update and get all this sorted. Today, tomorrow, 1 week, 1 month. Just give us an idea so that we have some information. Otherwise you may lose a lot of your subscribers including me. Just some info would be great. By the way downloaded your beta version this morning. It helps a little but still loads more improvements needed. I love 1P so please sort it out.

    I'm sorry, but I really can't say.

Like you said, it helps a little. I can't guarantee we will have some new fixes and additions every day, but that's how we are going to do this: Steady progress, one day at a time. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Sorry, did not mean to pile on. I had no idea that Safari 5.1 was so significantly different. I have had some clues, the first being that any custom, shortened URL in my Twitter client would render a 'server cannot be found' that was solved by running Cocktail and doing a thorough rebuild and update of the Locate and Whois databases, plus clearing all caches. Unfortunately, there are some specialized video viewers, such as the video on http://newscorpwatch.org/mmtv/201101210018 issues the same warning, did not before Safari 5.1.

I think the many shouts are coming not just because of the 1Password failures but because the program is so important after you make it part of your daily production cycle. I had no idea how much depended on the application until it stopped working. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The only thing left to say is the most obvious, please get the update out as soon as possible, but then again you already know that. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

We just released a bunch of improvements today. If you wanted to try them immediately, you can download the latest beta version.

You can do this by going to the 1Password > Preferences window, selecting the Update panel, enable the "Include Beta versions" checkbox, and then click Check Now. Once the update is installed, please let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks!

So I downloaded the beta and ran it through its first test. I decided to test it on the websites where I have multiple accounts, Gmail and Twitter.

I opened the 1Password application, selected a login account and clicked the URL. With Gmail it only open one account, the account I last logged in with, clicking on another login URL simply goes back to the the account last used. In the case of Twitter, it simple goes to the site and puts nothing in the fields and does not submit.

Also, I am still having the "Unlock 1Password to save this Login" strip appear, despite the fact that the app is open and I already have a previously saved login for the website.

    On to more testing...

One additional item I'm experiencing (likely you know about it) is that when you generate/change a password on a site you already have a password for, 1Password offers to save it but does not offer to replace any existing passwords.

I updated just before posting this (July 23). Running safari 5.1

Exactly, no mater how many logins you already have saved, 1Password wants to save a new one without option to update the existing. If you let it, it will create a duplicate with a number at end of name.

    Hello Garrett,

Please check your settings in Safari > Preferences > AutoFill and ensure the checkbox for "User names and passwords" is unchecked

You can read more about the solution here: 1Password Autosave and Safari AutoFill

Let us know if this was the issue.

    Cheers!
