Menu bar icon in iBank (Lion)

Hi

What happened to the menu bar icon for 1Password, which let you access logins from other applications (e.g. iBank). Seemed to disappear after Lion installation. Running latest 1P beta.

Thanks.

I am afraid it is not going to be possible in Lion.

Lion has improved the security model and it won't allow other applications to load their code into the current process.

    Thanks for the quick response!

That is unfortunate...I have come to rely on that option, esp in bank.

    oh well
  • Hey gkarpen,

On behalf of roustem, you are very welcome!

I'm sorry that the answer is not what you were hoping to hear.

  • Yikes! Can the two software companies work together to make it happen in Lion? I have a bunch of banks, all with secure passwords and no Direct Connect, so I've come to rely heavily on this integration.

Are you saying 1Password won't log you in in Lion? It surely will. Go to the Agile Forums and they will help you if you have problems. http://forum.agile.ws/index.php?/forum/11-1password-3-snow-leopard-and-lion/

  • geochapman,

I think what Jason is saying is that he's come to rely on 1Password's integration with iBank, which is still possible in Snow Leopard, but because of changes in Lion it currently isn't possible using the old method of integration.

We're never say never here at AgileBits, but without a lot of resources and development between the two companies it just may not be possible to get iBank integration back.

One more vote some integration (if possible) between iBank and 1PW. I just this evening went to a CC site in iBank and couldn't find the 1PW login. I see why from reading this thread. (shaking fist) Aargh Lion....

    Hi harringg,

Thanks for letting us know it would be useful for you. While it is *arrgh Lion* on one hand, the other hand would say that it’s a good thing since it’s more secure this way.

It was a selling point for me to use iBank, the integration with 1PW. You aren't saying that integration was less secure in 10.6 are you? I understand what you are saying about how Lion is coded to be more secure overall, but I made a purchase decision (for iBank) based on it's then integration with 1PW, when I was using it in 10.6.

If it's technically impossible to merge the two because of the underlying code in Lion, I think that's all people need to know. They can then make purchase decisions (on banking software) knowing that iBank and 1PW will not work as seamlessly as they did in 10.6

    Thanks

No. The problem is that in 10.6 programs are allowed to inject arbitrary code into other programs, such as we were doing to get the menu bar icon to appear in other apps. That's fine for us, but imagine if malware writers got their hands on code to do that? It'd be bad. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> So that is why Apple no longer allows it on Lion.
