Importing and Merging

I have an old mac that was using 1 Password 3. I want to move the passwords from this mac onto my new mac that I have been using for the last two months.

Is this possible?

I have exported all the old data using the 1Password Interchange file. It is now sitting on my new desktop.

I think that the next step is importing the data into the most recent version but I cannot find any documentation as to what happens when there are two entries for the same web site but with different passwords.

Are the existing (more recent) items kept; or

Are the existing entries over-written; or

Is a new entry with a unique name created; or

Am I given a choice for each instance?

Thanks.

To move 1Password from one computer to another, please see our guide for doing that here:

If you're just wanting to move the 1Password data you need to move 1Password.agilekeychain that's normally in this path:

    your_name > Library > Application Support > 1Password

Copying 1Password.agilekeychain avoids having to do the Export/Import operation completely, and eliminates the "merge" questions too. :)

Importing always shows you if the inbound item will be Created or Updated in your data file, but you cannot choose to Create a new item if the option given is to Update an existing one... so sometimes you're 'stuck' not knowing what to do. Unfortunately the Import doesn't provide any level of detail on the existing or incoming items to assist you.
