Newbie needing help with Syncing

Newbie needing help with Syncing

I just started using 1Password in earnest today on my MacBook Pro running 10.6. I have imported all of the entries from my Keychain and have an elementary idea of how to use 1P. My data file is stored in my Dropbox and I now want to add my wife's computer and share the same data file with her. At least I think that's what I want to do.

Her MacBook is running 10.5 and I have yet to download and install 1P on it yet. I'm just not sure exactly how to proceed and what order to proceed in. Sharing one common set of passwords is fine as we would like to have access to each others passwords.

So, what should my next step be? Should I install 1P on her computer and then import all of the passwords from her Keychain? And then what, I'm a little confused on how we mix my passwords together with her's in Dropbox? I have concerns about getting it wrong and losing our current passwords.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

    Welcome to the forums, Charles!

The best way to set up 1Password with Dropbox syncing on another Mac is to install Dropbox first. Install Dropbox on your wife's Mac and then log into your Dropbox account. (Or you could create a separate account for her and just share a folder with your 1Password.agilekeychain data in it, but that just depends on your needs. You can always set that up later if you want to keep it simple for now.)

Once Dropbox has finished syncing everything to your wife's Mac, install 1Password and run it. It should automatically detect your data file in the Dropbox folder and ask you if you want to use it. (If not, just locate 1Password.agilekeychain in the Dropbox folder in Finder and double-click it.)

You should be all set. We have some instructions in the User Guide if you want a broader overview, but what I just wrote should be exactly what you need to get going.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

    Cheers,

P.S. I grew up in the Detroit area and lived in Ann Arbor for about a decade. Best city in Michigan. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

P.S. - I've been here in Ann Arbor for my entire life, all 66 years, it's still a town with lots of class!

You take care of Ann Arbor for me. I was there there for about three weeks this past December and plan to return again as soon as I can. I still have a lot of friends there.

    Best regards,
