Safari 5.1 and/or 1 password 3.6.5 issues

<div class="IPBDescription">1Password no longer filling login & password on some website</div>Been a 1Password user since 2007. After recent update(s) to 3.6.5, 1PW now has a largish window asking for the master password almost every time I go to a site. In the past, as long as I didn't sleep the system or log off, I was able to simply enter the relevant site login information. I can't figure out what setting has changed or what I need to do to restore the wonderfully efficient previous 1 PW functionality.

This is with Safari 5.1, extension loaded on OSX 10.6.8.

Comments

  • I have "upgraded" to the latest versions of Safari (5.1) and 1Password (3.6.5)

I have unfortunately to admit that since then, 1password is no longer as user friendly as it was since I have been using a few years ago. There are some "look / functionalties" choices I find questionable and some issues I have which may be related to Safari 5.1 or 1Password (I can't identify which one is posing problem)

1/ the new Safari extension windows: most painful, you need to log in (it was not necessary previously) alothough 1password is set with automatic login. I found this painful with 1password for Windows and was pleased not to have it on my Mac. Is there a way to avoid this ?

2/ the look (personal feeling), well I would prefer the old one. Can we switch to the old one (as an option for instance ?)

3/ more an issue, there are some website which I can no longer supply with my ID and login. The fileds which were previously filled are no longer filled. This is the case for instance for Synology "intranet" DSM 3.1. Or for my bank website.... I tried to "record/save" the ID and password but it seems that nothing happens

So far, the only thing I want to do is to go back to Safari 5.0 and 1password 3.6.1

Any idea how to do so ?

Any similar issues found by someone else?

    Thanks in advance
  • I have the same problem of not filling in User name and Password. Before moving to Safari 5.1, 1Password was working fine, no issues.

Ditto to both the problems and the preferences. Using Safari 5.1 and 1P 3.6.5, can't log in to my Fidelity account, even when I re-saved a new password. Error message is: We're sorry. The Customer ID or PIN you entered is not correct. It worked just fine until updating to latest.

Bank account login works, and worked just fine logging into this forum.

Comment: Why fix something that isn't broke???? Was someone complaining about the interface, that you would decide to make major changes to it? Do you just need to justify your designer's jobs? Don't you realize that you are wasting users' time introducing unneeded changes that we have to debug? Please REVERT!

I've noticed that if a site like Evite has a login box that won't autofill, I unlock 1P Safari 5.1 but then when I go to the 1P app to manually find the login I have to unlock again.

I miss the ability to start the 1Password application from within Safari. Please add that back.

I post earlier today about this with no response. This really sucks and how do I go back to and older version to get rid of this problem?

You have my vote add it back
  • TO the publisher of this program

We deserve an answer on this malfunction. Please post it at the top so we all see it clearly. If it takes awhile - OK. -but silence is not acceptable

ME TOO! simple function of launching 1P from Safari was a godsend, especially now as it looks like some older logins need editing in the app proper to work properly!

I guess we could manually add a 'shortcut' to the app in Safari, but seems a daft thing to leave out...

The new user interface is horrible. What used to be quick and pain-free navigation now takes many clicks and keystrokes. It appears that you can do longer get a drop down menu of your login groups and select one; rather it appears you have to type the name and do a search. What a giant step backward. I hope people are listening. This used to be such a wonderful application.

  • I tried all the proposes, the jawascripting turn on, load actual Plugin... - with Safari 5.1 the automaticle FillOut doesn´t work! It´s frustrating. The PlugIn ist still beta ... Why I cannot load the last working PlugIn? We nee a "Get back" possibility!

I thought, 1 PW is so an great software, very usefull - but now, I cannot recomend you. Lion is out since a few days as finel status. What have you done in the past?
  • I find the way 1Password works with Safari 5.1 cumbersome - am I doing something wrong? I have attached the clunky 1password screenshot. I far preferred the old dropdown menu and right click options.

    Hey folks,

Sorry I was unable to reply sooner. We try to usually reply within 24 hours but as you can see we are experiencing a much higher volume of forum posts (and emails) than usual. It looks like I am still under 25 hours, though. I hope you can forgive me. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

This is one of the known issues that we are working around the clock to resolve. Most of us haven't slept much at all for quite some time since Lion was released.
2/ the look (personal feeling), well I would prefer the old one. Can we switch to the old one (as an option for instance ?)
This is not possible since Apple has made some changes in Safari 5.1 and Lion. We have a new interface in development, though. Pictures are available that blog post.

Could you provide the URLs for the sites where you are having trouble? I would love to take a look at them. Manually re-saving a login should do the trick for most sites. Disabling autosubmit may also be necessary depending on the site. These are both explained in the User Guide. Please let me know how it goes.

If you are using OS X Lion this is not possible. Otherwise, if you are suing Snow Leopard you will need to reinstall Safari 5.0. Be aware though that Apple has also included security fixes in the latest version of Safari. As a 1Password user, I imagine you take your security seriously, so I just thought I would mention this. The current version of the Firefox 5 extension is still using the old 1Password code, though, if you are interested in that. That way you can use a current browser but also use the older 1Password extension.

    URLs, please. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

We are looking at the way to open 1Password from the extension, this is mostly a design UI. As a workaround, you can type "x-onepassword://" in Safari location bar and then drag-and-drop it to the bookmark bar and name it "Launch 1Password".

Apple removed the technology called "Scripting Additions" from Safari 5.1 / Lion. This happened late in the development without warning. The Safari extension previously integrated using this Scripting Additions technology but this is no longer available. We had to scrap five years of code and start from scratch very quickly. It is not possible to "go back." We have been pushing updates constantly since Lion was released, though. Check out the aforelinked blog post for some details of all the updates we have made in such a short time. Again, you will also be presented with what is tentatively the future of the extension that works within the native Safari extension APIs but is a bit more subtle than the current interface.

Unfortunately, this is not something we can vote on. Apple has made it impossible to use the previous code, so we are making an extension that is even better than it was before with even more functionality available in the browser. It's not perfect, but we haven't had five years to work on it either. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I don't think it will take very long at all before it matches and surpassed the previous code. Thanks for your patience and support. We won't let you down.

If you need further support, please start a new thread since there are about five different topics in this one. It can make it hard for folks to get the support they need when there are multiple people posting with completely different issues. It is like being at a party and having everyone wanting to talk to you at once. Sometimes you need to slip away to to kitchen and chat one-on-one for a bit with each person having their own turn. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_bigsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-D' />

    Cheers!
