Feedback on 1Password in 10.7

I've been complaining about this since 10.7 and it seems like nothing is improving, 1Password continues to be almost unusable. I would rather just open Keychain to look up my passwords, but I'd be satisfied if the functionality was the same as in 10.6. One of the main obstacles is that there is no way to view passwords from the popup window, and to make it worse you can't launch the 1Password application. If you think you can and you try, it erases already filled-in forms and you can't reload them. Which means it makes you lose work. This is really aggravating.

In addition, the database gets filled up with useless duplicates. For example, I have about 10 entries for daw.apple.com and there is no way to stop it from asking to add it. I am also fed up with all the steps it takes to fill in a login form. I listed the sequence in a previous post and am not going to repeat it.

Can someone tell me this is going to be a usable application someday? Because I am ready to call it quits.

    Hey Gnardlodis,

We have actually released about 6 updates in about 4 days. Here are all the things that are already improved since Lion's release:

Single-Stroke Login is back: If you only have one Login for a site, hitting the default Command-\ shortcut will now skip the extension interface and log you in right away

Go & Fill is back: Right-clicking the Dock icon or clicking an item’s URL from the 1Password app will now open the site in a new tab in Safari and log you in

Performance improved across the board: We’ve made big advances in speeding up the loading of our new extension and keyboard shortcut responsiveness

Extension now works on blank pages, Top Sites: You can now trigger our extension with our keyboard shortcuts if you’re on a blank page, Safari’s Top Sites, or even if the keyboard focus is in the Address Bar

Autosubmit settings now respected: If you’ve customized a Login’s Autosubmit settings in 1Password, the new Safari extension now respects that setting

1Click Bookmarks are back: If you’ve created one or more 1Click Bookmarks, they should now work again

The extension is now a popover: Apple introduced popovers as a new interface element on iPad, and they were such a hit that it brought them to Mac in OS X Lion. We’ve found that a popover is a great way to display more of your 1Password data inside the browser so you don’t have to stop what you’re doing to open the main app if you don’t want to

No longer resizes when using Safari 5.1′s Zoom features: Some Safari users like to take advantage of its clever View > Zoom In/Out/Text Only features, and an earlier version of our extension would resize itself according to those settings. Not anymore

Auto-Submit greatly improved: We’ve done a lot of work to improve the new extension’s ability to submit forms, and sites like Chase.com and Schwab.com should work again
You can view your passwords in the extension by clicking the circled > next to the item in the extension or pressing the right arrow key on your keyboard. Just hover over the password and click the "reveal" button.

We are looking at the way to open 1Password from the extension, this is mostly a design UI. As a workaround, you can type "x-onepassword://" in Safari location bar and then drag-and-drop it to the bookmark bar and name it "Launch 1Password".

If you have not disabled Safari's AutoFill, you will likely be prompted to save Login items more frequently. If you have already disabled that, I would love to work with you to resolve whatever the issue may be.

We are working nearly 24 hours a day to keep the updates coming. Most of us have barely slept at all since Lion was released. I don't know that I have ever seen software updated as quickly as our developers are updating the new Safari extension. You can read about all the updates including a preview of the new UI we are working on on our blog.

We had to scrap five years of code very late in Lion's development due to some changes Apple made, and I am extremely proud of what our developers have done on such short notice. (And I'm not the only one.) It's only getting better.

Please make sure you are using at least 1Password 3.6.5 and Safari extension 3.6.5.BETA-30.

To manually update the Safari extension, you will need to temporarily disable automatic updates, otherwise, if you sit tight it will eventually update automatically.
