backwards compatibility of backups

A few days after updating 1password to 3.6.1 something happened which forced me to dig out an older machine to use temporarily. This backup machine only had leopard on it, and consequently I had to install an older version of 1Password there in order to get up and running. I was very annoyed to find that 3.5 does not recognize the new zipped backups created by 3.6+ and I was forced to make due with an older password file. Now I could rant and rave about why you've dropped support for leopard apparently 10 minutes after Lion came out, though perhaps there is some technical reason for this. However, I'd like to think you'd make allowances for people having machines that aren't necessarily all running the same OS version. At least an option to backup to the old format or some kind of "here's-how-to-import" documentation would be helpful.
