Custom keyboard shortcuts

I've updated to Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard (holding off on Lion for a little while till I'm ready to upgrade) and have all the latest 1Password and Safari extension.

However, my key-combination for auto-fill (Command - §) doesn't work, is this a known problem? I couldn't find a list of issues anywhere, but are custom key-combinations unsupported at the moment? I chose it specifically to avoid issues with existing shortcuts, as I usually run Safari with the Debug menu, and Command-\ opens the page load test window.

Is a bit annoying for my use-case as I don't use the button either as I usually have the button-bar hidden for the extra vertical space. I know I might be more of a niche case, but without the context menu the keyboard-shortcut was my preferred method of autofill, but with it being an existing shortcut I can do it <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

    Hey Haravikk,

Do you still have trouble with a different keyboard shortcut?

Please be aware that the extension does not currently function if the toolbar button is not visible. We are working to improve this, but there may not be a way around it with the current Safari extension APIs.

Please let me know how it turns out. Thanks!

Hmm, I thought I'd already posted here?

Anyway, is it a known issue that the extension doesn't work with custom keyboard shortcuts for auto-fill? I use Command-§ as I find it easier to press, and it also doesn't conflict with the page load-test tool in Safari, however the Safari 5.1 extension doesn't appear to accept this shortcut, so I'm assuming that Command-\ is currently the only supported shortcut? I have the Safari Debug menu enabled all the time as it has some useful tools for high-performance web-site testing, but the page load test conflicts with that shortcut <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

With the absence of the contextual menu being unable to use a custom keyboard shortcut makes the 1Password extension a bit troublesome to use. Especially since the only way for me to use it is to use the button-bar, but I usually have that collapsed for extra space.

    Hey Haravikk,

I merged your post into this thread you had already created. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Please see my post above and let me know how it goes. You may have trouble with "special characters" like § in the shortcut. Try some other combinations and let me know if that works.

Ah, I see; you're right it's the issue with the button not being visible that's causing the problem, if I make the button-bar visible (Command-Shift-\) then type my keyboard shortcut then it works fine, only problem is that restoring the button bar takes focus away from the page, bah!

With the button bar visible it works just fine. Will the return of the context menu possibly restore hidden button keyboard shortcuts? It seems like maybe Apple's trying to be too clever and removing the menu (and thus shortcuts) due to the button being hidden?

Ah well, thanks for the help! I'll just have to watch out for updates on this front as well then, seems Apple's managed to make things very difficult with this Safari update!

I can't say for certain right now, but we are working to improve this. We never say "never"! Our developers are very sneaky. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I am glad we got things sorted out, even if they aren't ideal just yet.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

    Cheers,
