"Avoid Autosave on These Domains" now supported in Safari 5.1

G'day 1P experts.

Since the updates needed for Safari 5.1 I'm having a recurring problem with 1P continually offering to save login details for sites I don't want it to. Previously it worked fine and those passwords which I'd been using Safari itself to remember or I'd memorised myself anyway were didn't make it happen. Now I have a bunch of passwords I don't need 1P to take care of and it's starting to get annoying that I can't make it ignore those sites. I've seen the bit about recommending to turn the Safari password management off and I could certainly live with that, but there are a small number of passwords that I don't want remembered by anything apart from me. The 'avoid autosave on these domains' option doesn't seem to be doing anything at all anymore except for IP address on my own LAN.

OS is 10.6.8, Safari is 5.1, 1P extension is 3.6.5.BETA-30, which I updated to about half an hour ago in the hope that that would do it, and 1P is 3.6.5. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Angus and welcome to the Forums!

Often, this behavior is resolved by deselecting "user names and passwords" in Safari's AutoFill preferences.

Please refer to the following guide for more details: 1Password Autosave and Safari 5.1

Let us know if you continue to experience the problem.

    Cheers!

+1 on it bothering me to save PW's I've already had saved in 1Password for ages (Lion and Safari 5.1). I should add that I DO run with the autofill UNCHECKED for usernames and passwords...it's been that way since I got this machine last year. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' />

I'm getting the same issue: I have asked 1Password not to remember passwords on my on-line banking site, but when I log in I get the prompt to save my password. This didn't happen before I upgraded to Lion, Safari 5.1 and the new 1Password extension.

The bank's URL is listed in the Avoid Autosave on These Domains list in Preferences as smile.co.uk. When I log in I'm redirected to a subdomain (e.g. https://welcome23.smile.co.uk). I have tried adding the subdomain to the exclusion list but I'm still prompted to save the password.

Safari is not configured to save passwords in its own preferences.

Oddly enough it's now started working on at least one domain. Perhaps because the computer has been off overnight while before I'd only restarted 1P and Safari? I'm not sure if I misread or missed something about a restart of the system and thought it was only the apps themselves that needed to be restarted, but just in case there was nothing this information might be relevant to you. I'll try it with the other domains I've got on the Avoid list to see if they're now ignored as well and report back, though it'll have to be later as I have a few things to do this morning. Otherwise I'll be trying the Safari preferences option you suggest and moving the ones saved there into 1P, though those are generally not important enough to protect with a master password and for convenience I'd prefer to have the browser store them.

But if I do and if the problem is persisting will that deselect option make any difference for those passwords that I don't use Safari to remember either? The thing is that although this is nominally my account I'm not the only one that uses it and so the master password is not known only to me, but there are passwords in use for things like webmail and forum memberships that aren't shared or ever stored in any software. With the previous version of 1P - and I think I'm getting to the root here - when 1P offered to save login details as well as the Save and the 'go away' X button there was an extra option of 'Never for this site'. Where did it go? I miss that option because it fine tunes 1P's behaviour without the bother of opening the app, going into preferences and adding a domain to a list. Click, it's done - so much easier. I've not been playing with the new version for long so I'm ambivalent about things such as the new interface, but that's something I miss. If you've put it somewhere else please say where, but if not please consider putting it back.

    Cheers,

    Angus.

Edited to add: I have now reverted to a Time Machine backup of Safari 5.0.5 as 5.1 was giving me headaches even apart from what's happened to 1Password. The toolbar button doesn't work anymore - wrong extension? - but the key is back on the menu bar and I mostly used that anyway. But I'd say if you could bring back the 'Never for this site' option, nut out a way to get the menubar key back again and offer a classic UI I'd be a big fan of 1P again. I am still a fan and it does still do what I want it to, but I'd recommended it in its previous incarnation to a couple of computerphobic friends and rellies, the kind of people who think RAM is a male sheep, as a better alternative to PostIt notes on the monitor (yes, really!). I know it's not Agile's fault but as it is now it's lost enough user-frendliness that I'm certain they'd prefer the PostIt notes, and that kind of defeats the object of having it.

    Hey folks,

We just added back support for the "Avoid Autosave on These Domains" list in Safari 5.1 extension. Could you please try the new Beta release (3.7.0.BETA-3) and see if it fixes this problem? You can do this by going to the 1Password > Preferences window, selecting the Update panel, enable the "Include Beta versions" checkbox, and then click Check Now. Once the update is installed, try again and see if it helps.

We are working to bring the "Never for this site" functionality back to the autosave bar as well.

For more information on some of the latest developments, please take a look at our blog and the FAQ section on the "New Safari Extension". We are updating both regularly.

    I hope that helps. Please let me know. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

  • Hi there,

thanks for improving 1password and Safari extension every day!

Unfortunately I am still missing the option "Avoid Autosave on These Domains" which is supported since 3.7.0 (build #31083) regarding the release notes.

I have 1password for Mac Version Version 3.7.1.BETA-2 (build 31087) and Safari Plugin 3.7.b7.

When 1 click on the 1P Button and select the Preferences Icon I find only two options regarding the login:

    + automatically submit logins

    + ask to save logins

In fact I am asked to save the login on pages I don't want to every time.

    Best regards

Hello Thorsten and welcome back to the Forums!

Hope you don't mind, but I merged your topic with a similar thread.

I understand your confusion. Before the updates, the Safari extension did not respect any domain added to the "Avoid Autosave in these Domains" list on the Logins tab in 1Password > Preferences. The release note regarding "support" refer to the fact that the extension now should respect the domains entered in the Preferences. It does not mean that the ability to access/edit the "Avoid" list was "added" to the extension's menu.

I'm sorry for any confusion, but I hope our latest releases of the 1Password application and Safari extension, Version 3.7.1 (build 31089) and 3.7.b9, respectively, allow you to use the "Avoid Autosave" feature with more accuracy.

Please let us know if you are still having problems with certain sites. If you are, please provide specific URLs for us to test.

    Cheers!
