Logins, Passwords and Identity Clarification

<div class="IPBDescription">Use of these and migration of existing passwords into 1Password</div>Hi There,

I've just download 1Password 3 and am a but confused over the 3 entities above and have 3 questons...

1. When creating a new secure password, 1P asks for a Password Title and the service where it will be used. Isn't this this Login?

2. When I login into a site its not aware of, it doesn't ask which Identity it is for. I thought if I had personal and business logins for the same website, I;d be able to link them to the personal and business identities I've setup. Am I wrong or missing something?

3. Finally, like most people, I have many sites with passwords that I need to migrate into 1P. One was a Wordpress site so I signed in (and didn't say yes to storing the (old) password) and then went to the update profile page. When that asked for the new password, I used the strong password generator. However, when I then looked at the 1P login item, its now pointing to the profile update page, which I will rarely go to. Am I doing something wrong.

Any help would be warmly welcomed,

Thanks,

Chris.

    Welcome to the forums, Chris!

The full name of the "New Password" item should be "New Generated Password". These are stored separately from the Login items as a form of a "safety net" in case you need to delete and recreate a Login item. That way you still have access to the password you generated (like a browser history for generated passwords).

Identities are for filling out forms — usually "sign up" or "registration" forms. You can sort items from the various Vaults into folders or use tags to categorize them, but there is not a way to link any items to Identities. Think of Identities as different "Address Book" cards that you can choose from when filling out forms.

To reorient the Login item to the main Login page (as opposed to a password change page or sign up page), you can simply save a Login on the main login page:

    1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and choose Save Login.

Once you are satisfied with the new Login item, you can move the previous one that pointed to the wrong page to the trash.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!
