How do I get 1PW to stop taking over Safari?
When I leave a Safari tab open for a short period of time (5 minutes or so?) 1Password takes over and opens this page: http://agilebits.com/extension/lock/safari
Well I am already running the latest build (see attached) but am unimpressed and have resorted to hand-logging into sites as the browser button may or may not work, then having to click through it 2-3 times (what's the point of the program then?)
the stock response here in the forums seems to be "install the latest beta", well, it isn't working for me and from the lack of responses from Agile in the forums it seems that it isn't working for others either. I shouldn't have to be a code monkey to get a program to operate correctly, even an unfinished practice version.
I understand Apple threw you a clunker with Lion, crap happens but if Agile could have just stated that this program is near unusable until further notice, I and others could have found a temporary alternative. Some of us actually care about security on our machines.

Hi JNDG,
I’m sorry about the issues you’re having with the extension.
Just to be clear, are you on Lion? If you are, can you open up Safari and press the “Command + Option + Q” to close and discard all windows, which will also tell OS X not to save the state for Safari when it closes. Open Safari and see if 1Password works better now. If not, try to reinstall the extension:

Open Safari, go to its Preferences > Extensions
Select 1Password on the list and press the Uninstall button
Make sure that 1Password is up to date, it should be at 1Password 3.6,5. You can do this by opening the main 1Password app and go to the 1Password Menu > Check For Update
Install the extension from the 1Password app as instructed here
I hope that helps, please let me know.Flag 0 -
Yes, using Lion, hence the reason I downloaded the update.
I am still having this issue, even after re-downloading and installing correctly the same extension (see attachment in my original post).
I never saw in the instructions that 1PW would take over my browser and prompt me to install the software I just installed. If this was any other site I would have booted it as spam. Flag 0 -
I'm sorry that you are still having this problem, JNDG. This is certainly not expected behavior. The latest update is for Snow Leopard and Lion which is why Mike asked you about that.
We have been cranking out updates nonstop. It is working quite well for the vast majority of our users, but what is most important to me right now is getting it working well for you.
Could you please try the new Beta release (3.7.1.BETA-2) and see if it fixes this problem? You can do this by going to the 1Password > Preferences window, selecting the Update panel, enable the "Include Beta versions" checkbox, and then click Check Now. Once the update is installed, try the steps below.
First, uninstall the extension from Safari's preferences.
Then, install the extension as described in the User Guide. Please follow the steps carefully as they are very specific and each step is crucial in situations where there has been some difficulty.
Please let me know how it turns out.

I'm using the latest beta build/extension with Safari 5.1 in SL. I continue to get 1P prompts about saving a password, yes even for this forum. The result is multiple entries of the same site. So much, that I just shut it off. I realize you are working with a new API from Apple. But it seems the basic function of 1P within Safari is not working. Other sites where I'm asked each time to add the PW to 1P even though the entry already exists in 1P include Yahoo Mail, my web mail account, and Macworld forum to name a few. Perhaps having "Automatically submit logins" and "asked to save new login" enabled is behind this constant activity?
I do like the GUI of the 1P panel, however, I preferred the original way due to its simplicity and non-intervening presence.Flag 0 -
The autosave issue is definitely not expected behavior. We are trying to reproduce it in our labs here but have so far been able to do so. That can make it hard to come up with a fix when we cannot actually see the problem firsthand. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />
I am sorry if you have already tried this based on other forum posts or the User Guide, but is the problem still present if you disable Safari's own AutoFill?
Instructions for this are in the User Guide.
Please let me know if that helps. I know there is still an issue for some folks, but that can eliminate the problem in most cases.Flag 0 -
I've never had autofill enabled.
I updated to the latest practice beta this morning and restarted Safari but I should have spent my time hitting myself in the head with a stick, would have been less painful.
Don't bother replying, you will just paste in the usual reply of "update to the latest beta and all will be happy . . . " bla bla bla.Flag 0 -
JNDC,
I'm not going to tell you to update to the latest version of the extension, there's clearly something else going on here if you're seeing 1Password take over your browser in this way.
Normally I'd ask for diagnostics report, but our e-mail inbox is so full right now that I just couldn't promise when we could get a chance to look at it, and that's just not fair to you.
Since that last screenshot, has the version number changed for the Safari extension, and can you just confirm which version of 1Password for Mac you have installed by going to 1Password > About 1Password.
Please let me know, we'll get to the bottom of this for you.
