"Data Not Available" error with Safari 5.1 extension

pnh Junior Member
I'm on Lion, running Safari 5.1 (7534.48.3), and 1Password 3.7.1.BETA-2. I've just now done a "reset" to Safari, and installed the latest version of the Safari extension. I am still getting the "Data Not Available" error. I have never gotten anything other than the "Data Not Available" error.

When I unlock 1Password:

Aug 1 07:07:00 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Installing 1PasswordAgent

Aug 1 07:07:00 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Removing file '/Users/pnh/Library/Application Support/1Password/Agent/1PasswordAgent.app'.

Aug 1 07:07:00 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Copying '/Applications/1Password.app/Contents/Executables/1PasswordAgent.app' to '/Users/pnh/Library/Application Support/1Password/Agent/1PasswordAgent.app'.

Aug 1 07:07:00 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Removing file '/Users/pnh/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist'.

Aug 1 07:07:00 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Creating '/Users/pnh/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist' agent controller.

Aug 1 07:07:00 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Starting 1PasswordAgent

Aug 1 07:07:01 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: launchctl ((

load,

"-S",

Aqua,

"/Users/pnh/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist"

)) failed (1): nothing found to load

Aug 1 07:07:01 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: launchctl ((

start,

"ws.agile.1PasswordAgent"

)) failed (1): launchctl start error: No such process

Aug 1 07:07:08 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: reloadAllObjects

Aug 1 07:07:08 Skyhook 1Password[17578]: Database (AGHtmlDatabase:file://localhost/Users/pnh/Dropbox/_Skyhook/1Password.agilekeychain/) load time [NSOperationQueue]: 0.081+0.004 (384 objects)

When I click the 1P button in Safari, and enter my master 1Password password, which yields tyhe "Data Not Available" response, here's what shows up in my console log: nothing.

For what it's worth, the file "/Users/pnh/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist" does exist, and does have data in it.

Try restarting the agent in 1Password (Help > Troubleshooting > Restart Agent) and then be sure you have the main 1Password application unlocked when you go to unlock the Safari extension.

If that alone does not do the trick, please uninstall the Safari extension and then reinstall it according to the User Guide. Please follow the steps carefully as each one is important (especially if you are having trouble getting it installed properly).

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

I have been fastidiously uninstalling and reinstalling by way of the exact steps set forth in the User Guide for some days now.

I have now used 1Password's troubleshooting menu to restart the agent, as you suggested; it's made no difference whatsoever. I'm still getting "Data Not Available". I've never gotten anything else.
Hi Pnh,

I’m sorry about the issue you’re having with the extension. This is indeed strange. Can you run the diagnostic tool for us and email the report to us at support@agilebits.com? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to the email to us.

I also sent you a PM here for more details. Thanks!
  • I have the same error on Lion, Safari 5.1. worked ok last night, today I get Data Not Available from the Safari 1P login.

I have looked over your Diagnostics Report and have emailed you my assessment and some things to try. Please reply to that email regardless, and post here too if all is well.

    Welcome to the forums, Fred!

Since things were working for you and then stopped, you may have a different issue than the original poster. Please follow Mike's instructions to send us a Diagnostics Report via email, and we'll look to see if your case matches or if other steps are needed. Be sure to include in the subject a link to this thread so we can quickly find your report. Thanks!
  • I too have same problem (but the extension has never worked)and have posted:

If following the steps already outlined still result in the "Data Not Available" error, please try these additional steps:

    1) Run the 1Password application, and unlock it (if needed) so that you see your existing data. Do not exit 1Password at this time.

    2) Please check that the 1PasswordAgent process is running. You can do this by launching Apple's Activity Monitor application (located in /Applications/Utilities) and looking for 1PasswordAgent in the list of processes running in your OS X account. Depending on your current sorting, you may have to scroll the display to look thoroughly.

If you do not see the 1PasswordAgent process for your account that would be very significant. Knowing your OS X version could help in this case as well.

Thanks for your update. I can't tell if you tried the suggestion in my email response. I'm including it here as well in case you're checking this thread more often than your email box.

I'd like to ask you to issue the following commands to the Terminal utility (found in /Applications/Utilities/). In the new window that appears when it launches, Copy and Paste each line, followed by the return key:

    launchctl load -w -S Aqua ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist

    launchctl start ws.agile.1PasswordAgent

Please show us all the output from these commands so we can see any errors that might be shown (I'm not expecting any).

If the 1PasswordAgent is able to start properly, the 1Password browser extension should within a few seconds allow you to unlock your 1Password data.

Please let us know how this turns out. Thanks!

Hi, Marty, I don't mean to be a difficult user. I didn't actually get an email from you, although I did receive (and answer) one from Mike Tselikman at Agile. Quite possibly your email went into the bit bucket; I"m pretty sure I managed to lose some email over the last two days due to an unfortunate combination of badly-conceived filters. (The kind of error it takes real experience with computers to make.)

The reason I actually came over to this thread was to report that, before seeing this message from you, I discovered a really bone-simple way to use the 1Password extension functionally with Safari 5.1: just double-click ~/Library/Application Support/1Password/Agent/1PasswordAgent. Then launch Safari 5.1, and the extension works fine.

Nonetheless, just for the sake of general knowledge, I also rebooted and ran your two command lines. They worked without throwing any error messages, and immediately after that I was also able to launch Safari 5.1 and use the 1Password extension normally, just as I had after double-clicking 1PasswordAgent.

I have to say, I'm tempted to just put your two command lines into my .profile file. I mean, it's not any more insecure, is it? Someone who steals my Macbook Air still has to know my master 1Password password in order to do mischief, and it isn't written down anywhere.

What I'm left with is bafflement about a couple of things:

    * Why my installation 1Password-the-application is evidently unable to properly launch 1PasswordAgent, not even when I use the "Relaunch Agent" tool on the troubleshooting menu.

    * Why this state of affairs has persisted even after I've completely uninstalled 1Password multiple times, including its various support files scattered here and there, rebooted, and reinstalled a clean copy.

    * And why 1Password's diagnostic report, _even now_, insists that "One or more 3rd-party SIMBL bundle is installed. These can interfere greatly with the proper behavior of the 1Password browser extensions. Please disable them if you are having any issues." I swear on a stack of copies of the Apple Human Interface Guidelines that I have renounced SIMBL and all its pomps, that every fragment of every SIMBL bundle has been expunged from this machine, yea even unto directories deep in /System where mortals fear to tread. I have no idea why 1Password's diagnostic routine thinks otherwise.

Not at all! You have an issue, and you needed help... that's what we're here for!

Your technique "forcibly" runs the 1PasswordAgent process, but in your situation that would not last through a log out/log in/reboot situation. It does show that when the agent is running, that the Safari extension is able to properly sync. That's good news.

While technically this wouldn't hurt anything these commands only needed to be done one time!

What happened to you is that the 1PasswordAgent somehow got permanently disabled at the OS X account level. No matter how much we tried to launch the agent in the manner we expected, it would not start with that setting. The commands told OS X to stop being a bully and let the agent startup on its own. This way it's always running, no matter what. That's the great news! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

You can put the blame squarely on me!!! In an attempt to point out more things that may need further action or research, I introduced a bug in that particular test that can cause it to report something is there, when in fact, there isn't. While we don't want bugs to be anywhere in 1Password, this report is principally for AgileBits' consumption so we've always known where to look in the report for confirmation of anything that's in the configuration summary. The bug has been fixed in the next build of the application.

I'm sorry that you had to swear: please tell your friends that I made you do it.
