Safari 5.1 won't allow me to unlock 1P

Not quite sure how I got the 1P icon to appear in the header, but now I can't use my former master password… i click on the 1P and a locked icon appears and asks for my password and i put it in but it won't accept it…

Prior to switching to 5.1 I made a 1password.html file and saved it to the desktop on my mactower with 10.6.8 apple system. It also asks me for a master password to open this file of all my individual passwords… and it works!! So I don't understand why my master password still works on the saved file but won't work on the new version… Any ideas on how to get back on track. I obviously don't want to start over and load up everything individually one keystroke at a time.

Do you see any messages shown after you enter the master password and press Return key?

Just " incorrect password, try again."

I am still able to open the saved 1 Password .html file saved on my desktop…using my master password that has worked for several years…. for some reason, the new software doesn't want to use it.

Is there a way to trash the software and install a different version with out using the master password… if not I am screwed and will have to start from scratch and load each password on a new clean version… one by one…. that is unless you have a workaround.

    hope so...
  • I'm experiencing the exact problem. It started with my upgrade to Lion. My 1Password application works with my master password just fine, but the extension in safari fails with the same master password.

    Error is this:

safari-extension://com.agilebits.onepassword-safari-2BUA8C4S2C - Master Password is not correct. Please try again.

    Hi folks,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Can you please try launching the main 1Password application and unlocking it? Does that work?

    Thanks

I just went to the applications folder and launched 1P (v3.6.5, build 31075) and it opened right up and is now unlocked and all the passwords are available to view. Maybe i need to trash the 1P icon from the Safari (5.1, 6534.50) toolbar. Then try to replace it again… or should I go to Agile site and pick up another version?
  • I should have mentioned in the last post that I still couldn't unlock 1P from the Safari 5.1 toolbar icon… just keeps telling me the password is wrong. Even though I could open 1P from my applications folder and everything was unlocked, when I tried to change the password, it told me my current master password was incorrect and it wouldn't let me change it. As I said before, the master password I have used for a number of years will open the 1Password.html file I saved on the desktop, but won't open 1P in the new 5.1 safari… even though I am still using Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
  • Hey there, billyabob! I am sorry you are still having this problem.

We resolved a number of these types of issues in later releases. Please click on the 1Password menu and select Check for Updates to get the latest version (3.7.2 at the moment). Also, make sure you have automatic updates for extensions enabled in Safari (Preferences > Extensions > Updates). Restarting Safari completely ( ⌘⌥Q if you are on Lion) will both start Safari fresh and force it to update to the latest extension (3.7.b10 currently).

I apologize for the trouble. You Master Password will work. The extension was probably having trouble getting synchronized with 1Password since you are running an older version. Please let me know how it turns out. I look forward to hearing back from you. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am having the same difficulty as billyabob. However the fix that solved his problem did not work for me. I have already done the things mentioned above, (latest extension, latest program updates, etc.). 1password was working fine this morning and this afternoon I'm getting the "incorrect password" message. Also, I didn't even have a master password to begin with, so I created one and it works fine outside of Safari.

Welcome to the forums, Randall. I'm not sure what happened that you didn't have a master password, but that could be part of the problem. Try reinstalling the Safari extension now that you have changed your master password.

Please let me know what version of 1Password and the Safari extension you are using.

    Thanks!
