https/TLS/SSL Authentication Not Working

Hello;

Since upgrading to Lion a critical functionality has stopped working for me. I've tried a clean install, multiple browsers etc and still the problem persists:

When a site uses TLS user authentication (401 Unauthorized w Authorization Challenge) the browser (in this cases Safari) pops up the following:

Pre-Lion, my hotkey would work here an allow me to select a login. The 1P button cannot be clicked on, as the authentication dialog is modal (mostly).

The hotkey WILL bring up the 'new' drop down selection menu (from the 1P button), HOWEVER:

You cannot select any item (is 'locked up').

The list is not correctly limiting the listing to the appropriate site / domain. In my case, is shows the 1.X.Y.Z IP address sites, followed by 10/8 sites then 172/8 sites, etc.
Is this a known issue? What is the estimated time for a repair.

My company makes EXTENSIVE use of https and client authentication, so this is a critical feature and reason for using 1Password in my world.

This problem is VERY easy to reproduce on any site that is asking for client-authentication and although I have not tested it, it might also fail on http + digest auth.

Happy to provide more data,

  • Hi Alan,

I'm sorry for the confusion here, because of some major changes Apple made to Safari 5.1 we had to completely rewrite our Safari integration in the form of a native Safari extension. This has a lot of advantages, but one of the disadvantages is that we no longer have access to HTTP / Basic Authentication windows in Safari 5.1, there's just no API for interacting with them.

We're looking into some possible solutions for the future, but I don't have a timeframe on when or if these may be available. For now, because you can't actually interact with the extension when the auth window is showing, you'll need to copy your password from the extension before going to the login stage.

Sorry that's not the answer you were looking for, but I hope the explanation helps.

This should be made quite clear in release notes and/or documentation (if it is, I missed it) -- I didn't know that this was a known issue and spent a lot of time hunting down the answer and eventually reporting it. This is a major loss of functionality on Safari.

What about other supported browsers under 10.7?

    Thanks

    Alan,

It is mentioned in a few places, including our help site and blog.

Should still work in Firefox. We'd really like to get this going in Safari but we're at a bit of a loss for the moment without an API to do so.

    Thanks

    Ben
