Firefox 5.0.1 problems

After upgrading to 3.7.1(build 31089), I can't use some of the short cuts as I did in the past.....such as the Option-Command-\.

I have attempted to upgrade the ext. but it also tries to keep the extension for Firefox 4. There was a post for a solution, however, I don't have the option of Unchecking the box next to Firefox.

Here are the steps as posted

1. Make sure Firefox is not running - - - No Problem

2. Launch 1Password from your /Applications folder - - - No Problem

3. Click 1Password > Preferences > Browsers - - - No Problem

4. Uncheck the box next to Firefox - - - - I HAVE NO SUCH OPTION. All three browsers are listed but only option is to install the extension.

Any suggestions?

1Password = 3.7.1 (build 31089)

Firefox = 5.0.1

Mac OS 10.7

Thanks

Mike

Welcome to the forums, Mike, and apologies for the confusion. We recently changed the way the Browsers preference pane looks and works, so the old instructions are no longer valid.

Please uninstall any and all 1Password Firefox extensions using the instructions in our User Guide. Restart Firefox and make sure that you still don't see the extension(s) there.

Quit Firefox and then reinstall the Firefox extension from the Browsers pane in 1Password's preferences.

For a few technical reasons, 1Password has to install 2 extensions in Firefox: one for Firefox 4, and one for Firefox 5. But if you disabled Firefox’s Compatibility Mode feature you will run into issues, most notably that Firefox will load both and cause problems.

To reenable this option, follow these steps:

Visit the URL “about:config”

Search for extensions.checkCompatibility

Ensure the value is true

Restart Firefox
Once compatibility mode is enabled (if it was ever disabled), restarting Firefox should allow 1Password to appear in the toolbar.

Please let me know how it turns out.

    Khad,

When I went to the URL "about:config", I didn't see any extensions.checkCompatibility? Now what?

According to Mozilla, this preference doesn't exist by default. You'll need to add it (it's a boolean preference) and set its value to true.

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Extensions.checkCompatibility

    I hope that helps.
  • That only partially helped. I now don't have the Firefox 4 version of the extension, but I still can not use the short cut "option - command - \"

    Why?

Some of the extensions in the about:config don't seem right and some indicate the status as 'user set'. I didn't know where these were so not sure. I'll attempt to attach what the extensions are if that is helpful.

Couldn't get the pages file to attach so I used a file from textedit.app

Mike, I wouldn't worry about any of those settings in about:config. Those are all advanced settings which could break things if you are not careful. Better to just leave them alone. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Please be sure you do not have ⌥⌘\ assigned to "Turn image smoothing on or off" in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Universal Access:

Also, are you using another program which could be conflicting with the shortcut? I know Alfred.app has a shortcut that could conflict if you are using Alfred's Power Pack.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Cheers,
  • Weird, but that worked! When I upgraded to Lion, it must have changed some of the settings like this one.

Weird also that it just effected Firefox and not Safari.

    Thanks
