Transfer 1Password to new computer

Hello,

I want to transfer my 1Password settings to another computer. In the new computer, 1password is asking for a "1Password.agilekeychain", but my old computer (Also latest version of 1Password) does not have this file. The old computer saves its 1password library file on my Dropbox:

If I try to "Choose Another" in the preferences of 1Password on the new computer, it looks for the "1Password.agilekeychain" file and i cant find it on my dropbox.

What can I do?

Thanks!

Patrick

  • Hello Patrick and welcome to the Forums!

Our help guide referencing configuring other Mac computers can be found here: Connecting Other Macs

In summary, you need to open your Dropbox folder on your "new" Mac and select the 1Password.agilekeychain.

If after following the help guide instructions, you are still having issues setting up your new Mac, please let us know.

    Cheers!

Problem is, there is no 1Password.agilekeychin file on my dropbox. As you can see in my original post, i only see a 1Password.html file and some folders. Is this maybe a "old" structure to save the keys?

  • Got it! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />)

I had to rename the folder "1Password" to "1Password.agilekeychain" so OSX knows its a file.

That's correct, Patrick, 1Password requires that when you are wanting to select your data file that it be named <something>.agilekeychain. There are "tricks" around that, but "Tricks are for kids" (so goes the old TV commercial). <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

By using the full and proper name you'll have no difficulties and you'll stay on the expected path when ever we refer to the name of your 1Password data file. I'm glad you were able to figure it out and get things working.
