Missing stored data from 2.5 to 3.7

<div class="IPBDescription">Hopelessly Muddled</div>Shortly after I installed Snow Leopard, I found I had to upgrade to 1Password v3. No problem I thought. So I happily paid the upgrade fee. It's been a struggle ever since. I'm horrified to think what might await me with OS 10.7 Lion.

When I upgraded from 1Password version 2 to version 3, none of my stored data from v2 could be found by the new version. I tried again and re-saved the existing data from 2.5 and reinstalled version 3. I faithfully followed the procedures to save my old data that were outlined on the website and tried again. When I tried to open the saved data nothing would open. So I gave up and started to rebuild all the data in the new version. That worked. So I have been slowly adding information back into 1Password. Today I tried to find a stored software serial number. Knowing it's not in the new 3.7 version, I restored 1Password 2.5.3 from Time Machine and tried to open it from there. When I tried I got the following error message ... NSInternalInconsistencyException Exception: -[NSViewController loadView] could not load the "(null)" nib.

My questions are, what is the error message about, and is there any way to get all of the old information back? All I seem to do is to keep making matters worse. It's a huge pain to know I have so much stored information that I can't access. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Mike and welcome to the Forums!

It seems that you were still using a very old version of 1Password and the new version does not understand the old data format.

Here are the steps necessary to use the old file:

    1. Move your current copy of 1Password to Trash. Download and Install version 2.5.8 of 1Password. It is available here:

    http://cdn.agilebits...sword-2.5.8.dmg

    2. In ~/Library/Keychain folder rename the 1Password.keychain file to 1Passwd.keychain.

    3. Start version 2.5.8 of 1Password. You will be prompted to convert the data to the new format. Convert the previous keychain.

    4. Verify that all your information correct. (You should see it all in the main 1Password application)

    5. Click on the 1Password menu and select Check for Updates to upgrade to the latest 2.x release (ver. 2.12.1)

    6. After installing and running version 2.12.1, you can then download and install 1P3.

I apologize in advance for this multi-step process. Usually everything would be done automatically but it seems that you missed many 1Password updates.

Please let us know how it turns out.

    Cheers!

    Hi Brandt,

Thanks for your reply to my request for help. Unfortunately, as usual with my upgrade problems, I can't get the URL you sent to open. All I get is the following error ...

    NOT FOUND

The requested URL /aws/dmg/1PW2/English/1Password-2.5.8.dmg was not found on this server.

    Apache/2.2.16 (Amazon) Server at cdn.agilebits.com Port 80 .

After trying unsuccessfully to open the link, I went to the Agile site and tried to download 2.5.8 from there. I found it in "History" and even saw the build number but there was no links or buttons to download it. Did I miss something in the URL you sent?

    Still stuck ... but trying,

    Mike,

Sorry for the bad link. When we changed our name a few months ago, some of our old download links were broken.

    Try this link: http://aws.cachefly....sword-2.5.8.dmg

Let me know how this one works.
