iPhone to iPad

<div class="IPBDescription">Syncing options?</div>I have already bought an iPhone for me, but as a lover of Apple, I've bought the new iPad 2, but I'm having some trouble. How do I sync both? I was thinking about buying the 1Password for my Mac, but I need to know if I could sync the data from my iPhone to Mac and the to my iPad.

Thanks for the information

  • Hello Cerejo and welcome to the Forums!

You can sync your iPhone to your Mac and to your iPad. However, you cannot sync your iPhone directly to your iPad.

We recommend Dropbox synching to keep your Mac and iOS devices synched automatically. For more details, please review our Automatic Sync Guide, and let us know if you have any questions.

    Cheers!

Ive purchased 1pw for Ipad and iphone. If I understand you correctly - Im forced to buy it for the pc also in order to get dropbox sync to work between the Ipad/phone?

I guess this is all to sell more PC apps. I must admit im getting a bit provoced by this policy. I work on many different PCs - Do I need to buy one licence for each?

Btw: Manual backup and restore using wifi to syncronize one Ipad and one Iphone is very difficult and unclear in you documentation. Took me a few hrs to get it to work.

Please change the policy requiring to have 1pw installed on a PC...

  • Hi Jan,

While you do need to setup Dropbox syncing with one of our desktop applications, you don't need to continue to use the desktop apps once the sync is setup and so you can use the 30-day trial available from http://agilebits.com/downloads to get things setup as we detail here:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html

Of course, we hope you'll like using 1Password on the desktop as it gives you the ability to integrate with your desktop browsers and easily fill your details.

We license 1Password on a per-person / per-platform basis rather than per-device, so a single-user license for 1Password for Windows will allow you to use 1Password on as many PCs as you own.

In the future, we're hoping to make syncing much easier, and certainly with Apple's announcement of iOS 5 and iCloud we'll have to look into how we can make 1Password fit into the new 'PC Free' ecosystem.

    Hope that helps,

  • Thanks for the quick reponse, Stu.

I tried that setup, but needed to use sync with WIFI first in order to get the Ipad contents transferred to pc.

Then it was simple to switch to sync with Dropbox.

    All ok now.

I was perfectly happy syncing my devices via the iphone. I really don't need another account.

What happened to the "devices" tab that was in the preferences?

I can't seem to sync my iphone anymore. Please bring back this service for those of us who prefer to NOT have a dropbox account. Thanks.

OK, I did get it to work - after I deleted the phone & re-installed it. Still want the Devices on the preferences for easier management.
  • Welcome to the forums, extremejor! Thanks for the update. I'm glad it is working for you. The devices should be listed in the sidebar unless you remove them. I am not aware of keeping them in Preferences. That may have been well before my time. Sorry for the confusion. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

They weren't kept in the preferences - there was an option to select certain tasks & settings in the preferences (such as pairing, syncing, auto-sync, etc.), which now seems to be lost. They've always been listed in the sidebar.

Perhaps you are thinking the interface from 1Password version 2 from a couple years ago. It looked like this:

The interface in 1Password 3 looks like this:

    Thanks for the info Stu.

Some time ago, I recall I used a trial version of 1Password for Mac to backup my iPod touch over Wi-Fi. Then I removed it from my Mac. Was it acceptable to use a trial version once more for the sole purpose of setting up Dropbox syncing between an iPhone and iPad? Normally trial versions aren't supposed to be used multiple times; that's why I'm asking. Thanks in advance.
  • That's absolutely fine, what you may find is that you can't any new items to 1Password for Mac itself, but setting up syncing shouldn't be an issue.

We want to improve the sync setup on our iOS applications, as we know many people are starting to use iOS devices as their only device these days, I know that will be true of my grandparents later this year, for example.
  • Yes, 1Password is very well designed and easy to use, but thank you for continuing to improve it!
  • Hello pgoppelt and welcome to the Forums!

Thank you for your kind words! We will continue to do our best to keep you and our other users happy.
