<div class="IPBDescription">Can Knox work seamlessly with Crashplan online cloud back up</div>I want to use CrashPlan as my onine back up solution. If I do and keep the knox files encrypted as they are before back up, will the individual files be backed up as I change them?

I wrote to CrashPlan and they responded as follows.

"CrashPlan works with Lion's FileVault without any special configuration.

With other encryption solutions, there may be some small settings you must tweak to allow CrashPlan to back them up. For example, with Truecrypt, you'll want to disable the "preserve timestamps of file containers" option. This allows CrashPlan to back up the files inside as they are changed.

While CrashPlan can back up encrypted volumes as-is, we recommend backing up the decrypted files inside the encrypted volume to provide more granular backup."

Do I need to do any tweaking?

I hope someone can help.

    Hi TimeLine,

You might find this conversation at Crashplan interesting and it might answer your question. Knox uses the same sparsebundle format that they are talking about and we generally recommend that you use Knox to backup your vaults and then you can set your CrashPlan to back up those folders. To answer your question specifically, if you set CrashPlan to back up the Knox backups folder, it’ll sync the whole file at once because a new backup will place a new file there, we back up the whole vault at once, not just changed files. This ensures the best data integrity.

You can have CrashPlan back up both the active vaults and the backups as well. The third option is that you can do is have Knox back up the vaults to an external drive and use CrashPlan for active vaults only. It doesn’t hurt to have more backups and we generally recommend at least two different copies of your vaults.

If you decide to restore from CrashPlan, you have to make sure that CrashPlan restores the whole Knox vault file, not just some files inside it.

I hope that helps, please let me know.
