Feature Request: Custom Templates

Hey there!

I have a feature request with regards to the wallet - I live in the UK, and our banks do not operate in the same way as they do in the US, which renders the Bank account option almost completely useless. For me personally, the following information would be useful to be able to store:

[list]

[*]Bank Name:

[*]Name on Account:

[*]Type ( Include the "Current account" type! ):

[*]Customer Number:

[*]Account number:

[*]Sort Code:

[*]Security Number:

[*]Password:

[*]Passphrase:

[*]Debit Card Number (15 Digit number):

[*]Expiry Date:

[*]CSC (3 numbers on back of debit card):

[/list]

Also, it'd be useful if you could hide the entire password, and request to copy certain characters. For example, my bank will ask me for (for example) the 1st, 4th and 11th character in my password, so it'd be useful if I could request 1st one, copy it into my clipboard, then the 4th, etc.

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the post, as it happens I'm in the UK too and so I share your desire for an improved bank account template within 1Password.

We are looking into making it possible for users to create their own templates, and customise existing ones, with a future update to 1Password, though I don't have a timeframe for exactly when this will be available. To respond to a few of the field request though:

This should all be possible when we have custom templates available. Of course, even though the fields are named in a way for the US you can put any data into these as you want, since bank accounts aren't fillable online. We did add fields for SWIFT and IBAN, which all UK banks are required to use as well as your sort code and account number, and are legally required to provide you with upon request (I used to work for HBoS before the whole Lloyds Banking Group debacle came about, hence why I know a fair bit about this area).

These would be better stored in a 'Credit Card' item, which with the latest versions of 1Password include Solo / Maestro / VISA Electron and Switch in the 'Type' field, with VISA being used for VISA Debit (I have 2 VISA Debit cards with Barclays, business and personal, which fill fine).

The advantage to using a 'Credit Card' item is the filling, you'll be able to fill your debit card details just like they were credit card details. You can also use 1Password's tagging functionality to group your accounts together.

This is something we're investigating, we're seeing more and more banking sites use this random character approach. Ironically, it may not actually add any extra security to the login process, and some research suggests it actually makes the site's security weaker because it's possible your password has to be stored in the clear on their system in order for them to process the random characters.

One thing to mention though, anything that's related to the online banking side of your bank account should be stored in a Login item, since 1Password can fill alot of these details for you, providing your bank is using a sane approach to their online banking login.

    Hope that helps,

    Hi Stu,

That does indeed help, thanks a lot! Custom templates would indeed be awesome <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Would it perhaps be possible to link my bank account to my Debit/Credit card?

The random password approach is a little dumb - I guess the reason is to stop MITM/keylog attacks being quite so effective, perhaps.

On behalf of Stu, you are quite welcome! <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

As he mentioned, [url="http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/tags.html"]you can use tags to "group" related items together in 1Password[/url]. You can also use folders if you prefer, but while an item can be tagged with more than one tag, it can only be in one folder at a time. For this reason I prefer tags, but your mileage may vary.

If we can be further assistance, please let us know.
